  • Results from this are pretty dependable, here's one recently developed.

  • Sweet, sending you a PM

  • I see we're getting into the swing of upholstered things again. :)

    #Einstiegsdroge

  • Haha, yes indeed - apparently not able to shake the habit!

  • Anyone have a SLR for sale on here? Having a look on Ebay but its so risky. Gutted i missed out on smithchild's lot.

    Currently shooting on this

    but finding myself missing shots

In what way are you missing shots with it ? The lens is supposed to be pretty good, so it may be a case of technique* rather than a problem with the camera

*Something I've been guilty of in the past

  • Zeiss Ikon Nettar, Ilford HP5+ pushed to 1600.
I find myself shooting with this all the time now while other cameras gather dust. Will experiment with Delta 400 (and PanF 50 with a tripod) before settling down with a film choice

  • Very nice..
Second and third look very very smooth for HP5 pushed to 1600..

I have a Nikon F-501 with an AF 35-70mm 1:3.3-4.5 that you (or anyone else) can have.
Just looking for postage (it's €14 insured from Germany though) via PayPal, and a donation to this fine forum of your choice.

  • Cheers !
I guess less grain/smoother due to medium format rather than 35mm ?

I feel like I should try out PanF/FP4/Delta 400, but as HP5 is the cheapest of the bunch and I'm not shy of setting black and white points in Lightroom to extend tonal range I'm not sure what the benefit will be.

  • ..ah, I skipped the part where you said you shot it with the Nettar, hence medium format.. yea this explains it!

I would say it's definitely a good idea to try out different film (and if poss keep the other things like camera / dev / scanning and also light you shoot in constant) to get a grip on what's happening.

  • These are also HP5, but only pushed to 800 (and it's 35mm, not MF)

  • @Oliver Schick ..you see those trees are the only thing right now that are remotely as interesting as upholstery, but to be honest they are much harder to photograph!

  • That's a cracking shot, any info on camera/film?

  • Ta! OM10, fairly certain it was 160NC. I found a folder of scans from years ago and that was in there.

  • Cheers.

Maybe because I don't really know the film stocks that well, but I find it hard to tell them apart. I shot a few rolls of TMX400 also pushed to 1600 and had to work out which was TMAX and which was HP5 by dating them rather than being able to work it out from the scans.

I've also been looking a lot at Michael Kenna's work recently (shoots on medium format Tri-X mostly) and Paul Hart (shoots on medium format PanF 50) and again can't tell the film stocks apart.

Maybe there just isn't that much of a difference scaled up to a 6x6 neg ?

I'm properly into trees at the moment, especially in the winter when their branch shapes are not covered up by leaves.

  • Such cinematic, very DoF
    I like a lot

  • The focus ring takes an eternity to turn and candid portraits are hard to nail, dont get me wrong its a great camera and takes fantastic images but it takes time and I have to be methodical.

  • For candids have you tried using zone focusing ? With a 50mm lens set at f11 and focused to 25 feet pretty much everything from 12 feet to infinity will be in focus. Set an appropriate shutter speed for the shadows and you can use it as point and shoot more or less.

It's what I do with my Nettar which as a viewfinder only camera I'd be relying on guessing distances if it wasn't for zone focusing.
