  • Both have a stated clearance of 42 and we want to be able to take on some rough stuff.
    Thoughts?

Officially my Straggler 700c has clearance for 41mm tyres, but I'm running Continental RaceKing 29x2.0" just fine. Mavic XM719 rims, so 19mm internal.

  • I know some on here have found knards to be a little too fragile and have swapped them out pretty quickly. @jontea maybe?
    there is a tyre thread:
    Which tyres?

  • I love my Knards, I have done horrible things to these tyres and they have stood the test of time. Pretty bombproof.

  • Hell of an opening gambit for a review:

If you can fit the Schwalbe G-One tyres in your frame, you should get
some. As genuine all-rounders they're impossible to beat right now:
fast rolling on tarmac and properly capable off-road. They're really,
    really good.

  • Awesome thread, best way to kill an hour in work and got so many ideas for my own build.

Here's my blueberry sparkle straggler frameset, it's still a work in progress, gonna ditch the heavy duty touring rims in favor of an all black tubeless wheelset, but with gum walls if I can get em'. Need more spacers before I can cut the steerer.

It's replacing my LHT build, which was a bit too small for me

  • Bit late but might wana' see mine, basically what i'm using mine for, Sram 1x10 etc, 32's felt amazing when doing longer rides in the summer

  • The rebuild is done!

Well almost, I'm going to cut the steerer and remove all spacers, fix the front mech and rear brake.

  • Looks like perfect straggler conditions

  • Looks like a fun ride and a fun bike. Kind of like a better version of my Straggler :-)

  • Fell back in love with my cross-check today. Rode out to a petshop with my gf on NCN62: so a lot more off-road than I'm used to and I realised where this bike shines, and that I might have been ruining it by trying to make it into a rando bike.
It'll be getting some tyres with some semblance of knobs, maybe bigger guards (50mm fit on cross-check?) to facilitate that. Yaay, bike love.

  • Yeah know what you mean. My cc is the only bike that comes out the shed now. Any money I spend on bikes goes on that at the moment. So bloody adaptable, and who needs disc brakes. Hate to say it, but maybe @amey was right, dbad!

  • I had Knards on both my cc and lht and both felt like I was dragging a torso behind me! Awful tyres.

My current favourite are MSO by Clement in the 40c size. Really fast coupled with good grip.

  • Anyone got a 50cm cross check? Would consider frame only. And -- assuming that I find one -- I'll have a 52cm going spare if anyone is in need.

  • Was about to message you about that then looked at the geometry - 390 reach on a 52cm frame?!

  • Just run a 80mm stem:)

  • Is this an MTB? Am I confused?

  • It's a Surly šŸ˜‚

  • 80mm stem and an in-line post make for a pretty comfy riding position on my 52 Straggler (Iā€™m 5,8)

  • @cupcakes - If you are looking for a buyer, and can post to Amsterdam I might be interested. I need a solid, but not AmsterdamTank type thing here

  • @graunch ok cool. I do of course need to source a 50cm cross-check... Or an equivalent with discs (ideally)

  • can't help you there I am afraid :-)

  • This is so lovely! Looks like a lot of fun to ride too!

  • Anyone on here own a 1x1? Got any pictures for inspiration :)
