  • Cheers, will investigate.

  • You can also get lens cleaning CDs. No idea whether they'll help or hinder though

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/HQ-CLP-001-CD-Lens-Cleaner/dp/B000BN6KQY

  • Anyone interested in Minidiscs? Given I've not used the stuff for ages I'm pondering whether to get rid of the stuff I have.

I've got a Panasonic SJ-MJ50 which has a docking station and speakers, Sharp MD-R1 and a good few hundred recordable minidiscs (mainly full of the music I liked from about 1998 - 2004).

  • I just received two replacement styli for my Grado DJ100i (annoyingly only sold in pairs)
No sound at all in the left channel.
Is this even possible? Same fault on two needles!
It worked fine with the old one until my son bent the tube.
Inserting the bent stylus will produce noice in both channels.
Also a random old cart, I had works fine.

    What else could I try?

  • Suggests it's the wiring in the cartridge. Not familiar with the Grado but can you see the connections in it?

  • I had this with an AT95e, Stylus not seating properly on the cartridge. A little jiggling seemed to do the trick. Changed the stylus after a friend bent it and the new one works fine all the time.

  • I'm in need ome interconnects. I'll PM you now.

  • All wires to the headshell are connected.

    et @Airhead
Yeah, could be one of the four connecting points on the stylus carrier not touching properly.
Not much jiggle room present though.

  • Mine didn't seem to have much movement but it needed massaging once in position and then it worked until I touched the cartridge/stylus body when the channel would drop out again.

  • Slightly OT but I needed a perspex cover made for a mixer so I looked at this guy, PR Displays.

    https://twitter.com/PRdisplays

Then I checked out his facebook:

    https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100016042295470

It turns out he's a mad racist so does anyone know where to get a cover made or should I just get a Decksaver?

Edit: He's been tipped off about his racism so he's deleted it all from his timeline and adjusted his privacy settings so you'll just have to take my word for it that he's a nasty, nasty, little racist shit.

  • Fucking hell. When did being a full on no apologies public racist become acceptable? Seriously.

  • Who knows?

All I know is that I'll be taking my multicultural pounds elsewhere.

  • I'm curious abou dust covers too.
    I have a Gemini iTT (same size/shape as TT1 through 4)
I can't seem to find anyone specificly made for those.

  • @johnnyhotdog @dron. I had these guys make me a TT dust cover. Cheap and fast can do any size. Can post pics if you want lmk

  • Nice one, thank you!

  • Thank you. They look good.

  • I'm undertaking a fun little experiment. It will be interesting to hear if there's a sound difference at all. Although probably neither my ears nor my system would be delicate enough to recognise it.

  • Nice touch, integrating bike parts into projects is something I try to do as well, not on that level though.

  • Thanks. I’m still unsure if it’s a bit too much. I realised by coincidence that the half inch pitch of the chain link was a match so just had to try it.

  • Very smooth!

  • Discovered the stylus is borked on my Denon DL-160 today :(
Rigged up TT after a few months, it was skating across the disc... I took it off and had a look under the loupe, twisted along the axis through 90 degrees at the tip! Dunno how but suspect during some building work we had done where the gear had to be moved on the stand a few times... despite the stylus guard on and lid taped shut...
Anyway no point crying over spilt milk, lovely thing but I'd had it ten years and it's got me into turntables. My current setup is a Linn LVX arm (on an Ariston RD80) which isn't so designed for high compliance carts anyway, so I've put an order in for an AT95e. Might get something fancier later.

  • The AT95e is a cracking cartridge. Clearaudio (and a few others) use it as a base for some of their much more expensive cartridges.

The only upgrade that might be worth doing is adding a Paratrace stylus.

  • I run an AT95e on one of my decks. I really enjoy it but it didn't stand up to the MP110 on the same deck at all. It's good enough that you don't notice it's failings until you compare it with something else. I've been looking at the LP gear version of the paratrace, it has great reviews as well. Would be interesting to compare that to the Nag 110.

  • Just bought @Dazaa s AR60 to replace my bust one. Forgot how beautiful these amps look and sound. Also, if you can excuse the terrible pun, Dazza is dead sound.
