  • If you're a Pi fan you'll probably know the backstory but this is nonetheless worth a listen

(I actually bought my first Pi from Eben himself in 2012 when he was giving a talk at Google about the company and his motivations in setting it up)

  • Nice, will check that out!

Got a new Pi project planned, I think. I picked up a cheap refurb 4TB WD MyBook and I've got a spare Pi3.

I've found out about NextCloudPi, which seems like a cool idea. I like the idea of an opensource personal 'cloud' with a mobile app that'll sync pictures etc, much as Dropbox etc do, but with the data on my own discs. Not sure how well it'll run, but it seems to be an actual thing and will be a learning experience...

The alternative is to get hold of an old(ish) HP ProLiant microserver and work that up into a proper NextCloud box (and presumably with enough power for it to do other stuff at the same time). But that's a) not really for this thread and b) way out of my area of expertise, but would again be a learning experience...

PS-if anyone does have an old microserver kicking about, let me know!
