• Great. Sounds like I may have found my tyre for the cobbles!

  • There's something really counter-intuitive about making a hole larger in order to fix it.

I slice those anchovies both length- and width-wise. 4 times as much puncture fixing for your dollar and easier to use.

  • Yeah, I cut mine horizontally and agree that vertically will dramatically improve the repair nightmare. Cheers for the tip! I think because mine are originally intended for MTB tyres, size isn’t really an issue.

  • Has anyone tried Maxxis tubeless? I'm getting a little fed up of my Pro Ones' susceptibility to punctures.

  • Thumbs up for the Padrones

  • How long have you been running them? Are they ok in the wet?

  • really? I have ran Pro Ones tubeless for close to 1k miles without any punctures or cuts .. although have the Padrones in the shed for new bike, they did BOGOF on black friday.

  • Perhaps I've been extremely unlucky, but do seem to have a fair share of punctures that the liquid hasn't been able to seal. Having inspected the tyres, I can see plenty of evidence where it has been successful. Perhaps the problem's with the fluid, idk (as the kids say).

  • What sealant?

    Mine were great with Stans.

  • Stan’s too. It all started off so well, so maybe it’s just a combo of tyre wear and sealant drying up a bit. I’m still optimistic.

  • Have you topped up or even replaced the sealant?

  • Yes, have done so, but still it happens. Admittedly I've not cleaned out the tyre, so that may be the cause of my woes.

  • They are better in the wet than Pro Ones. I have them in 25 & 28s about 7000km this past year.

  • I plan to go tubeless on my Steamroller, never done it before, should I chuck it to the LBS to do or is it something a reasonably capable bike fettler should try first time?

Thinking Panatracer Gravel Kings SK in 35mm to make for brilliant path racing

  • DIY, buy 50m of rim tapes in a couple of widths, 1 litre of sealant and something to inject into the valves (I use the syringe from the vets for administering dog medicine) buy decent valves and some Schwalbe easy slip.

  • I've never injected into the valves, should I start doing this?

I've literally done all my tires with a jug and a track pump

  • If the tire doesn't seat for any reason and you have to take it out you won't have to deal with the sticky stuff

  • hmm. touch wood I've been pretty lucky, when I've been changing tires I just tip it into a jug.

  • How do you top up the sealant? If you can unseat the tyre, pour it in and re-inflate with a track pump then there's no need to unscrew the valve core and top up that way.

I have 3 sets of wheels and have tried 3 different types of tyres and find this the easiest way.

  • On the topping up w sealant point - is there any need to pull the tyres off and wipe out the old dried sealant before doing so? I have a worry about the old sealant adding weight, as if it's c.30ml a pop then (unless it all pisses out through flats), won't it be building up inside?

  • Just add more. Don't pull the tyre off.

  • You are kind of supposed to clean them out periodically but who's got time for that. If it's an everyday bike then there's not much scope for buckets of the stuff congealing, unlike say a summer bike that's been hung up for a few weeks.

  • if it's c.30ml a pop then (unless it all pisses out through flats), won't it be building up inside?

A lot of what you lose is by evaporation of the water, so 30ml dried out is only about 5g solid residue left in the tyre.

  • Ah gotcha. Yeah I hadn't thought that people actually were doing a wipe down each time, the evaporation point removes my worry!

  • Cant remember who was asking about Gumwall + Tubeless 30/32 tyres but Specialized do the Roubaix in gumwall: https://www.bike24.com/1.php?content=8;product=190220
