Re-functionalised & updated the wife's commuter after her front wheel and lights were stolen. Swept back risers, dynohub & supernova lights, front rack, hydro brakes. Studded tyres currently.

They're all a bit naff. I tend to use an Allen key one and just remember to lock the front wheel.

@Tho they're a hack/bodge of different cheap racks I had laying around.
@Rasmussloth they're some trek town bars I found online. Also v cheap, £14 or something

Frikking love that. Attention to detail throughout. Watch out for water ingress splashing on the front light. The pure is quite susceptible to it.

This is a repost, but a repost of my dream bicycle.
How do I find a suitable frame for this, 650b with cantilevers...
The 1950/60s French randonneur bikes I guess will be made of old heavy French tubing.
Is the only option custom? I have no £££s for custom.

That thing's a mess. They literally took a cross check and welded the brake bosses an inch lower, it's not even low-trail (which is confusing given how they market it to be made for front-loading on that ridiculously high porteur rack.)
@mk1mark - Soma Grand Randonneur? It's made of Prestige, has the proper geometry and it's affordable.

I use some cheap Madison allen skewers, they have a pin in the middle of the bolt, supplied with an allen key with a hole in the middle. Again, I don't live in a high theft area but never had an issue, even when my bike has been locked up in Mcr city centre.

You asked for the best - these aren't that but they are the cheapest I'm pretty sure.
If I'm leaving my bike for more than a few minutes I just use one of those cables. Wouldn't rely on skewers personally unless you're willing to spend £60 or something on them.

I've found frames from the 70's tend to be better for conversions generally, i.e. more clearance for wider tyres and mudguards.
Look for something with crimped inner chainstays and flat crown forks work quite well.
Then you just need to get 4 canti bosses welded and you could get it re spaced at 130mm if the number of speeds bothers you. -

Most of the randoneurs were actually made of pretty light tubing, I’d say cost would be a limiting factor if you’re considering one of those that are in good shape.

Thanks for the heads up, didn't know that. Unscrewed the lid to have a look inside out of curiosity and the design seems quite good though, two o-rings etc
