Have you been to a sports physio/clinic? You should be able to find recovery training programmes for this type of injury

Cheers, I am glad my sketchy memory of Mens Health science means I can keep hosing my legs with cold water.
For the record I am making small, hard fought increases in leg strength. Doing each leg in isolation is a PITA, sometimes literally.

Dunno about my legs but my core and arms are much stronger now. I guess they were probably the weakest bits so have had the most noticeable changes.
-

I have yeah. Doing mostly posterior chain exercises & hip stability work. Time will tell if it helps

Does anyone here use kettle bells regularly and can you give me an indication of what a few of the basic exercises are? I'm thinking of getting some for some basic strength training.

The only thing I've done with them is two-handed swing from between legs to above head and then one-handed version of this or alt where you swap at the top. Other than that maybe lifting them like a dumbbell press or similar. Youtube?

Goblet squat
Kettle Bell Swing
Turkish Getup
Presshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2waVex8EUfc
This isn't a bad beginners workout - there's also a mens fitness (?) step by step KB workout

Turkish get-ups are great. I used to incorporate Russian twists into my routine but don’t really think they’re good at all for your spine.
Check out Pavel Tsatsouline as well..

Thanks all. Those all should do for a start.

3 weeks late here so apologies, but my anecdotal advice is it was massively helpful for me. Had knee pain and swelling from being a teenager through my 20s, made worse with skiing and football, started lifting and with squats I've reduced it to about 5% of what it was. I could barely bend properly due to the swelling at times, that's a thing of the past. .csb

No worries!
I've been strength training for 3 weeks now on alternating days and believe I am seeing some improvement. I've learnt that open-chain exercises (leg press) are a no-no and that 30 minutes is plenty for my knees at the moment. One thing I've found is that my DOMS are always restricted to my glutes & hamstrings especially so I must be incredibly imbalanced after years of cycling.Fingers crossed.

Me too. Enjoying the idea of balancing things out about.

Anyone use JEFIT? How do you search for workout names? I just want to throw in 5x5 but doesn't look like you can search for names?
-
• #1793
Is shit. Has loads of stuff but the interface is fucking atrocities.
Thibgs like doing a routine in step 1, 10, 11, 2,3,4 etc
Week 1,10,11 etc.Just really clunky.

I use stronglifts, I like, but is there an equivalent for some sort of kettle bell thing?
I'd love to go to lessons but most are at commando castle. I fucking hate that sort of branding.
-
• #1795
It seemed quite simple but I've not actually used it. I can't believe you can't search for a workout by name - what kind of fucking search is that?!
-
• #1796
Didn't someone post kettle bell stuff up thread recently?
-
• #1797
Do you mean stronglifts app? I'll have a look for it. I'm not strictly doing 5x5 or anything though so JEFIT seemed good because you can customise workouts and I just wanted it for my potential new weekly DIY session. I've just got back from going to a local gym.
I'm not sure I like training without my coach - I'm too scared to lift the weights I should be lifting alone. :S

I’ll give you a lesson bro. SRSLY.

There's an element of customisation with the paid version:
- Assistance work - unlock assistance exercises to target body-parts like arms, abs, calves
- Custom Assistance - create your own custom assistance exercise, with your sets and reps
- Assistance work - unlock assistance exercises to target body-parts like arms, abs, calves

Might be worth having a look at Stacked. It is Mike Matthews app. I have it but haven’t used it yet. It seems to be able to be customised to anyone’s needs.
