Thanks, issue is it'll take possibly a few days, it's 400gb of stuff.
I'm not in a hurry for the stuff that's on it. So I'll find a spare machine somewhere, might be able to do it at university.

So Apple genius confirmed it's the graphics card. Which required new logic board. The same issue that it was replaced for only 1.5 years ago, under replacement scheme. Won't fix it now as 'vintage'. So left with a paper weight of laptop.
I don't have a spare apple machine, so I can't un-encrypt my hard drive. I asked genius to do it, he said no. Not much goodwill from apple.
Sod em. What happened to good apple customer service.
Easiest thing to do is buy a new mac, un-encrypt hard drive, then return it. Tossers.
