The first image has some unrelieved potential imo. Some added contrast on your subject (curves and a mask) and not the background would help I think.
I agree, it looked a lot better on my PC, I think my monitor has a lot more contrast on my phone.
Sounds plausible. Also be aware of the brightness level of your monitor. A rule of thumb is, in good light the brightness level should be between 1/3 and 1/2.
