  • Thanks. The Maxxis tyres (with their yellow logos) I used to have on there really tied the theme together, but they were a hair too big.

    @Heldring: Needs a wash, ironically.

  • A set of mavic rims would probably do the trick too :)
Are those Kojaks on there now?

    Good shout.

2.15" Big Apples! With the reflective strips removed. Biggest tyres that fit with these mudguards.

  • How are you finding the apples? If been running Big Bens for a long time, but they pick up a lot of road grime, so I'm on the lookout for something with less tread.

  • How are you finding the apples?

I like them well enough. They don't feel particularly fast, but I guess that is to be expected. They're very puncture proof, which is nice of course. Don't know what else there is to say, not a whole lot of negative in any case.

I might've tried Kojaks if they came in a bigger size.

  • Anyone know max mudguard size that fits in a surly cross-check?

  • They come in 2", that's 4mm less. I rate then pretty well anyway, feel a lot more lively than when I used to run Paselas, though they have nearly slid out on me on very slick tarmac before.

  • They come in 2", that's 4mm less.

I replaced my 2.0" Big Apples with the current 2.15", and I think the difference is significant (visually at least). 2.0" is just too small on 26" wheels in my opinion. Plus I want to maximize the amount of tyre I can get in there.

It's kind of a shame, because I indeed would've liked to try them. But the Big Apples have served me fine so far, so it's all good.

  • Maxxis DTH come in 2.15 and have the matchy yellow decals. They save quite some weight too and served me well so far.

  • I'll keep them in mind when these new tyres wear out. Ideally I'd like to fit some Continental Speed Kings, but they're 2.2", so probably won't fit the Gilles Berthoud guards in combination with the frame. Anyway, enough offtopic talk about tyres!

  • Obvs I'm biased, but I've been using the prototype of the mount I now sell for 2 years now, and it has never fallen off, or wobbled around in an annoying way. I have used with PDW full metal fenders and velo orange zenith, and theyve been fine.

  • But maybe ask someone else who has used. @jb has one

  • These are gangster AF. Where from?

  • For sale separately?

  • Thanks! Thats reassuring. I tried to ask jb in his current projects thread but I haven't heard back.

  • Yes! I got them from directly from Sim works https://sim.works/

I chuckled when I saw that they also make ti mudguards...

  • What Scott said ;)

  • Thinking about down/upgrading my pdw city to some 53mm sks matt bluemels.
Lovely guards with marginal clearance to okay guards with good clearance.

  • Looks like Kinesis have got into the mudguard game.

They've just released some black anodized aluminium ones.

  • Pretty nice. I notice PDW are doing 650b now too, fortunately way too wide for my bike.

  • I've got an All City Big Block which has 28mm Pasela's on a 23mm rim. Being entirely new to the world of guards, the clearance is looking quite tight to get anything in there so i'm wondering if anyone has any experience with these frames. Can take pictures if that'd help?

Looking at the 45mm PDW full metal as my friend has a set, they look solid and are mountable without eyelets. If there's a better solution i'm all ears, even if i'm just going to end up with an Ass-Saver

  • They'll fit easy, just fitted 50mm chromoplastics to mine with room to spare. Only problem now is my 40mm gravelkings rub slightly when out of the saddle, 38mm paselas on their way for weekend.

  • Wonderful, thank you. Hope 53mm is enough to clear wtb nanos

  • Should be, nanos come up a little small, gravelkings come up a little large.
