• Having given this due consideration I disagree. The 964, I reckon, is the final expression of the aircooled, the 993 along with the 996 is the transition.

  • After thinking on it more, I may be bias as the 993 is my favorite. So I'm willing to conceded that you are not incorrect.

The 993 took the design elements of the 964 (round headlights, silhouette, glasshouse) and softened and plumped - the headlights have sunk into the wings, the arches have been pumped up with collagen. It takes a very taught, compact design and adds bloat whilst losing precision.

As a design on it's own I like it, looking at it in the sequence of 911's I think it loses to a clean Impact Bumper car.

I like the narrow bodied cars (because I have one- obvious bias is obvious), whilst I appreciate the flared bodywork on for example the Turbo models I really don't favour it on the NA cars.

The 996 GT3 is perfect - narrow shell, tyres filling the arches perfectly, more power and more brakes than the cooking version.

Again, obvious bias is obvious, but (and I've visited both camps before deciding on one) I prefer the shape without the spoilers.
