  • The best disaster. It was so disaster, I mean, you could never do disaster like I do.

  • Comes up with nothing.

  • Congratulations, you've not been pwned.

Well, except for your PHD details :)

  • £400,000 = nothing to TT.

  • Not exactly nothing - combined with the bad press shareholders and customers are hardly going to be happy! It was the biggest fine ever issued for such a breach and it finally sent a message to them and similar organisations to get your shit together, this is real. £500,000 is the maximum fine the ICO can give, at least until GDPR comes into effect next year and then we're all fucked, I mean protected, as the fines can be % of the company's earnings or something like that.

  • Dear PHD Customer

Following up from the emails we have sent over the last few days about the hacking attack on PHD’s website, we are writing again with some new information.

The database that the hackers gained access to included the passwords (in encrypted form) used by PHD customers to login to their account on PHD’s main website.

If you are a PHD customer who has an account on our main website we would, therefore, advise you to change your password. Furthermore, if you use that same password on other sites we would advise you to change it on those sites too.

We have taken extra security measures on our website and both the web hosting company and the Cybercrime unit for North Yorkshire Police are currently investigating the situation.

We would like to thank everyone for their support so far and we will continue to keep you updated as we hear of any new developments.

    Kind regards

    The PHD Team

  • Wife wants a new bag for Xmas
Can you really do better than this? £100, -5 limit, 1.5kg weight. Seems ok for 3 season camping and occasional bike tours with trailers (weight/size less an issue)

  • Very interested in the PHD Minimus, I'm at the top end of their standard sizing chart though at around 186cm. Any informed opinion on how true that sizing guide is? Cheers

  • Now £80 if you're still looking?

    https://microcosm.app/out/GFi6h

  • I'm 180ish and from memory it seemed there was room to spare but how much I can't really recall.

  • Thanks, weighing up options and this is the best currently, but concerned about length. Will try and research more.

  • I'm looking to do some short bike packing late April this year (and hopefully more in summer) so I'm looking for a decent sleeping bag, i'd like to keep the weight and size down as I'll be using a handlebar bag, frame bag and probably something like a carradice for the back.

Is sub 1kg, well under £100, 3 season and synthetic unreasonable?
I've looked at the Vango Ultralite Pro 200 which seems like a good buy at around 1kg and £60ish

  • don't buy a synthetic one, no point. read why: https://andrewskurka.com/2015/backpacking-clothing-stop-insulated-jacket-pants/

get a down one with a fill power of 650 or more.

  • Meh. Down is better but synthetic is fine IMO

  • What are my options if I am looking for a sub £200 3 seasons lightweight sleeping bag in extra long? I am 190cm and "hench" so would like something spacious.

  • I'm not really 100% comfortable with down, without being too high horsey about it I'd not want to buy down unless I have some sort of guarantee that its "ethically" sourced*.

*(Which i guess probably pushes the price up)

  • I know what you mean, this is why I buy my sleeping bags second hand.

you might try this one, it's about 1kg and will be toasty down to 0 deg

  • look for something marked "extra long", often easy to find in the sales

    this
    this if you sleep cold
    this one too
    this slightly lighter weight

  • I think it does make a big difference. synthetic is so much less packable, so much heavier, and it degenerates quite quickly over time. down bags can last 10 yrs easily. makes it worth paying 30% more for or whatever.

  • Looking for a sleeping bag for my gf, rated -5/-10, so probably 4 seasons, low price is a priority over extremely lightweight, for once.

    Any tips?
Anyone getting rid of something along the line?

  • My down sleeping bag got a couple of holes in it on my last tour, anywhere in london people will suggest for repair and/or cleaning?

  • Not London, but I sent one off to Mountaineering Designs who did a really good repair/refill job at a decent price and pretty quickly.

  • Any one got a view on the Aldi down bag they've got in at the moment? It's 800g plus the stuff sack. No comfort rating although apparently did conform to an ISO rating or other (maybe fire?)

Might pull the trigger just to review it.
