  • The most famous double watch of all...

So what does Buzz wear in its place today? A lot of people want to
know. Thanks to Omega, which today celebrated the 60th anniversary of
the Speedmaster in London, we have the answer. And it's not one watch
actually, but rather three that adorn his wrists. All at once. On his
right arm, he wore the new Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch (bear in mind
his role as a brand ambassador), and, on his left, an unusual
contraption that combines an 18k yellow gold De Ville Chronoscope with
an X-33 and its titanium bracelet, modified to connect both watch
heads. Calling this "unique" would be an understatement.

  • I'd be more concerned about the obsessive journey tracking than looking odd wearing two watches!!

  • Remember the slide rule talk? Well, another diversion for today:

Had to take home this Altimeter found in a draw at my grandparents. Appears to work, missing the pocketwatch loop for the top.

  • First glance at busted Vostok kindly freebies by @spotter today. Can wind and set time but only ticks for a minute tops, starts again when crown jiggled just so. Will need further inspection and cleaning of crown stem and works as next step.

  • Glad to see you've made a start!

  • It is a regular journey - 30 mins walking and i am interested in my heart rate on it as i do it most weeks. Obviously, there is beer at the end!!

  • But less of an oddball than with both of them on the same wrist.

    Where's your swag?

  • My swag?

  • How about using your phone to track journey while it is connected to a Bluetooth heart rate monitor. While it may be seen as a little odd to wear a HRM for a 30min walk (and potentially left on all day), IMO it's not half as odd as wearing two watches.

Also, I reckon once you've done this for a few days and seen that your HR pattern is the same each day, you would lose interest in monitoring HR so carefully (unless you have a funky HR!) Could use the HRM for other activities too.

  • Fair point. I guess once i have done the walk a few times the reasoning has gone to wear the Apple Watch. Thanks for that.

This is the Apple Watch and my current favourite watch.

  • Why don't you get TAG Heuer Connected?

  • O shit I've just seen the price of it... nvm

  • Ha. That was my answer!

  • Also, they're fucking massive!!

  • No protective cover and not a scratch or dint (touches wood). Selector wheel was a bit sticky for a while after the baby puked on it!

  • Ohh wow, that is one lonnggg case.

  • Thanks. I’ve been looking at a couple of covers - one makes it look like a G-Shock (cover and strap) the other is a plain plastic cover. I’m slightly worried about the squash games and only really need the cover for it.

  • So looking for some ideas... I have decided for a big birthday in a few years to start saving for a once in lifetime watch, and was looking for some inspiration, my criteria are;

    • Not a dress watch ( I have an old Omega for that)
    • Something to be worn everyday
    • Around 40mm
    • Steel bracelet
    • Waterproof
    • Clean dial, so not a chrono or diver
    • Not fussed about date, and hate date bubbles
    • Not scared of a bit of colour, but nothing too crazy
    • Budget somewhere around £5 to 6k

Currently leading the race is a Rolex Milgauss with blue dial and the green glass, this has the added bonus of a vague family connection as my grandad used to design power stations so the anti-magnetic plays to that.

But I am open to being wowed by your ideas...

  • Now they've cleaned up the branding on the dial, the Grand Seiko Snowflake is an absolute winner

Hodinkee recently did a 'week on the wrist' bit on it: https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/grand-seiko-spring-drive-snowflake-review

  • Ugh. So damn pretty.

  • I am not getting involved in the whole Grand Seiko debate again......

  • Mont Blanc (Summit) also make a smartwatch, for the moremoneythansensecrew

  • He says, getting involved again.

  • I actually really like that, will add it to my list to try on. Being a massive geek I love the detail of the spring drive as well.
