  • Crap, Oyster perpetual

  • Possibly, but not that model.

  • First Omega In Space.

Got to say I prefer the stick hands on the Moonwatch to the arrows on the FOIS.

  • That's 10x more wanky! at least! (but still nice)

  • That's a good shout. Looks way better.

I think the moonwatch may be the pick of those you mention. Or a datejust. Both timeless and versatile,

The BB36 looks off to me - dial/lume belongs in a dive watch - I would get tired of it.
Explorer 1 is awesome as we know, but a little austere for my tastes, esp given the entry cost, and nowadays that whole look has been homaged to death.
Railmaster, I just can't love, dunno why, maybe the odd tapered hour markers
    My 2p anyhow.

  • There was a 'well dressed' guy (with horrid slicked hair) just behind us as we exited the flight back last night, with the shirt sleeve just so, wanking off his Rolex. I caught a glance but it seemed such a needy gesture (leaning on the seat talking so his watch was reflecting the light and checking if anyone saw it) that I was put off the brand even more.

  • I’d love to have the cake to buy a nice watch and use it fearlessly like this Explorer II https://thewatchbloke.co.uk/2015/01/28/rolex-explorer-ii-adjustment/

Nice website too, has made me add a Bell & Ross/ Sinn M1 to the grail list

  • My tastes are rather less spendy, but still out of my grasp.
Currently looking at Casio ProTrek's as the woodland watch of choice (for hiking and biking) but £500 is more than I want to spunk on a watch that'll live in a cupboard most of the time

  • I only paid about £100 for my ProTrek.

I was very tempted by the Black Bay 36 (I already have a couple of other Tudors) but the more I saw it the less I liked it. It's nice enough but I just found it a bit uninspiring.

Personally I'd go with the Railmaster, it's a bit different to what everyone else has. (Seem to be in stock here https://www.hughrice.co.uk/products/omega-gents-1957-railmaster-60th-anniversary-limited-edition-watch? )

  • hate the blue markers on that. awful awful awful

  • Morning all

Any opinions on the Apple Watch 3?

Also, more suited to this thread, if I wear the Apple Watch when I am out but want to wear a nice Watch too - would it be mad to wear both? I want to use the fitness aspect of the Apple Watch.

  • You'll find that the blue markers are very small in real life and understated.

  • BURN THE HERETIC !!

  • Its a tough call.

If you are bothered about how your watch looks, then the Apple Watch is really your only decent choice.

However, the Garmin Fenix range of watches absolutely scrub the floor with the Apple Watch in terms of fitness uses. It does basic activity tracking far better and its dedicated sports modes are far superior.

In terms of Smart features, the Fenix does message notifications etc but not much else. The battery life absolutely shits on the Apple Watch..I charge mine once a week and could let it go for longer between charges if I wanted.

The downside to the Fenix watches is that they look pretty clunky and are similarly clunky to use, even the newer ones which are available in smaller sizes.

So yeah...I guess an Apple Watch should be your choice if you want something that looks nice and only does basic activity tracking but if you want a proper fitness tool and are not so fussed about other smart applications, then the Fenix is for you.

  • I saw the green version in real life recently and it looks really awful.

  • saw one at the rolex boutique in terminal 2 a few weeks ago. the blue is a bit too light for me. it is almost baby blue

  • Explorer 1 pobably has the best resale value too.

  • Thanks for the advice. I am aware that it is heresy but I had to ask. The watch is coming from Hong Kong and I’m hoping it will cost around £273 - a significant saving compared to Apple in the UK.

I’m still dreaming/pondering over a Speedmaster and the currrent FOIS discussion has tempted me again.

Still not sure how I could get away with wearing two watches on my nights out. I want the Apple Watch to track my journey and one of my dressier watches to wear when I get to my destination. I’ll ponder a bit longer on that one.

    Thanks all

  • I wear my Apple Watch 2 maybe three or four times a week and only to Strava exercise sans phone. It’s OK, battery is actually pretty good and if you want to check texts, emails, music etc it’s useful in a novelty way.. But when I get home I take it off ASAP and put on something else.
Wearing two watches is a bit odd, like all the people wearing Fitbits and watches, they just can’t wait to tell you how many steps they’ve done.
You can get straps that hold two watches too.
Maybe get a case to carry two watches, I have a little leather one for commutes but you’re still stuck carry one which is a pain.

  • Seiko Contra

  • Thanks for that. I may wear the Apple Watch going to my destination and switch on arrival.

Do you have any protective covers for the Apple Watch - I play squash and I think I need one.

  • One on each wrist?

    Seems too easy...

  • I had thought of that but i am overly aware that i may look like an oddball (a bigger oddball than normal).
