  • It goes close to that for sure hence the confusion for me. Didn't know about the guy beforehand but it was sympathetic overall. For all his apparent faults I was left feeling he was more inspiration than clown. Ach, it needs a viewing. Entertaining if nothing else and a lovely brief use of Faith No More.

  • Bushwick tonight, was a good watch after a slow start, quite topical too on several levels.

Watched the All I Want For Christmas animation earlier with the grandkids (ages 2 and 3), they were engrossed for 90 mins and I do like a bit of Mariah Carey this time of year

  • A Christmas tale - french

Part black comedy part drama...it's quite interesting as it goes into family drama (Christmas movies eh?) when the whole family comes together for Christmas but it's a more nuanced and reflective than a lot of movies. It's on Mubi ATM, I liked it, put me in a serious mood so for something lighter go elsewhere :)

  • Looper, John Dies At The End, Caffeine, and I think something else but have already forgotten. Good evening I'd say.

  • Happy death day, the devil's candy, better watch out. All top tier low budget christams horror gems.

  • Yeah if anything it's done wonders for his reputation. Before watching The Disaster Artist I considered TW a talentless hack whose film became a classic through dumb luck. I feel completely different about him now, although still pretty confused..

Speaking of changing perceptions, I watched Good Time and it turns out Robert Pattinson is actually a great actor.

  • Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri

    Shit title, fantastic film.

Frances McDormand is amazing, Woody Harrelson is really good too.

It has laughs, sads and feels. Strong contender for film of the year.

  • On my to watch list.

So what was everyone’s film of 2017? I can’t decide between Blade Runner 2049 and Get Out.

  • Agreed. A lot better than the name suggests.

  • I reckon The Levelling was the best film I watched in 2017.

  • Kong Skull Island, was better than ok, although Tom didnt bring much to the party. It was a bazillion times better than the cgi slop fest of Jacksons effort.

  • Guardians 2, was it me or was it boring as hell, even for a Marvel Movie.

  • I finally got round to watching Gone Girl and wow, what complete dog shit.

  • Downsizing tonight on an Unlimited screening, not sure if I expect good things or not

  • What did you hate about it?

  • Looks like it might be alright from the trailer considering the cinema releases right now are fuckin shite. I keep saying I'm gonna give up my unlimited card as there just isn't enough out imo.

  • Coming out in the next few weeks and looks ace:
    3 Billboards
    The Post
    Shape of Water
    Lady bird
    Darkest Hour

Not great but worth a look:
All the money in the world

  • Bad luck.

First 30 mins is promising. Then goes off in a completely odd direction. No the film the trailer suggests.

  • I avoided the screening, kinda glad I did

Really enjoyed All the Money in the World/Molly's Game

  • Dunkirk - Looked pretty, but had no feels for any of the characters, therefore wasn’t particularly gripping.

  • I though it was Paul Verhoeven-esque glossy trash but without the panache, combined with tired cynical satire, blatantly adapted from a pulpy airport novel, with too much bad acting and cringeworthy dialogue. The story was preposterous, it was tonally confused, the ending was ludicrous and unsatisfying, and it was a full hour too long. The tense bits weren't tense, the scary bits weren't scary, the funny bits weren't funny and the sexy bits weren't sexy. I have no idea why it was so well received.

I do like lots of films by the way! Between this and Star Wars I sound like a right whinge-bag.

  • it was the telly a few weeks ago.

the overarching point of the film seemed to be "bloody wimmin are all out to get you and will lie and cheat do it, men are the real victims here!"

    yeah it was shit.

    the star war was ace.

  • Watched a really great film last night, Heartstone, Icelandic coming of age number about two friends navigating their budding sexuality. Super realistic and beautiful, really gets you into their heads and puts you back into that space of being an insecure kid without a fucking clue what's going on.

  • So, you didn't like it then? ;)

I didn't even watch it, based on the summary I expected to not like it. At least you gave it a watch :)
