Ah, the LED thing makes sense (wait - actually the connectors for rear light on the Luxos are labelled +/- so would indicate DC output?)
! Re capacitor I've read that it's the supernova front unit that takes care of it. It would make sense as the tail light is so tiny.Someone somewhere posted a circuit schematic to have some stand light with B+M front + Supernova rear.
edit: found it; http://bemme51.blogspot.co.uk/2017/02/bicycle-standlight-with-son-edelux-ii.html ; what I haven't found yet is the motivation to undertake the mod.

Fair. However, the connectors on my rear B&M light (a secula) has no markings on it. The connectors on another B&M rear light I have (topline brake plus) do have markings.
However, I suspect that this may be the same as the older Marathon Supremes. They didn't have a preferred rotation direction so one wasn't marked. People were confused and continually asked them, so they put one on just to shut people up.
I think that's what you miss out on - the LEDs will naturally rectify the AC input and light up but the stand light's capacitor won't have any rectifying circuitry and so won't charge up.
