  • I have a pair of older straight bladed Time carbon forks with a steel threaded steerer on my Argos. I've been getting more and more concerned by the flex/judder under braking but had hoped that it was more likely to start cracking than spectacularly fail.

Your story makes my stomach turn.

  • If it worries you, you can always have them reglued. I did it in a carbon repair training and it's rather easy. Just heating the aluminium (not the carbon!) so the old glue brakes, cleaning and re-gluing. Stronger than before.

  • Thanks for the tip, i may give this a go. I check them regularly and they still look in really good shape, maybe it's just a characteristic of the fork i need to accept. I spoke to a few retro MTB'ers that have experience with old carbon forks and they've never seen any snap in one go which makes me feel a little better!
