• Right. I love my FM2 but miss my Nikon DSLR, and want to get back in the game. Looking at old second-hand FX bodies, it looks like the D700 and D600 are roughly the same price, (~ £500) for a decent condition, low shutter count model, (Aperture have one of each for ~ £60 difference in price).

I know the D700 is older, but I understand that the body is more robust. But, the D600 is much newer, higher pixel count, smaller body. Which would folk recommend or choose?

  • Tricky. I sold my D700 because I never really got on with it. The body is pretty sturdy though. I haven't used the D600 but bought a DF which I really like. It is closest thing in digital to an FM2. They are pricey though.

  • Best stills camera I've ever owned. Bought one used at 60k shutter actuations; sold it at around 120k - still working flawlessly - to get on the Fuji bus, which I've always regretted a bit (not the Fuji bit, but selling that camera body).

12 megapixels is more than enough for most applications - I printed some very nice A1 prints from the files. It's fast to work with, robust, the metering and AWB is mostly great, good battery life - and they seem to be holding their value incredibly well.

    If you don't want/ need video (I now have a D750), I'd pick it over a D600 any day.
