Comically huge cog is a bit of a let down.

53/19= 2,78 ratio... but can be 53/20 Talon so 2,65

Running a big cog so you can run a big ring always feels like stuffing your trousers.

With equals ratio a large transmission facilitates skids and the chain wraps better : )

I think the opposite.
Trying to run a 14 or 15t cog and having to use a 46t chainring looks ridiculous.
Bigger gears are more efficient than smaller ones of the same ratio. -

I'm not saying you're wrong, cause I heard this argument a lot. But I always wonder if this is really so.. To me the 11 on my cassette doesn't feel any slower than the others. Had a 1x10 setup for a while where my biggest ratio was 38/11, this didn't seem to be any slower than 50/14 or 50/15.
Still think both small and big cogs are fine for track bikes.

Did you think this is bike porn?

thats proper nice man, looks sick

If you sometimes use that bike on track then why not run a big ring and big cog when you're riding it around town?
-
• #53999
I run 52/18 on one of my builds, rides really smooth and the chain is near silent compared to riding a 46/15. also it is easier to just get a big chainring and swap cogs instead. buying cogs is less expensive than chainrings. big cogs for streetlife
