  • I want to add Mrs Howard to the title deeds of a flat that I own (no mortgage).

Is it as simple as following the instructions from .gov.uk and any reason why I would need to go down the solicitor route?

    1. Download and fill in an application to change the register.

    2. Fill in either a ‘transfer of whole of registered title’ form, if you’re transferring your whole property, or a ‘transfer of part of registered title’ form if you’re only transferring part of your property.

    3. Fill in a certificate of identity for a private individual.

    4. Find out the correct fee.

    5. Send your documents, forms and fee to HM Land Registry.

We did this earlier in the year for a slightly different land registry matter. Our experience was that following the instructions wasn't as simple as it sounded at first, due to poor form design which is not really optimised for DIY, but it works. You might want legal advice about whether to add her name to the title, but actually doing it doesn't require a professional.

  • Cheers. The forms do indeed look gnarly.

Will have a poke about but having had a quick look....I might give myself an easy life and get a pro to do it for me.
