Phil Wood rear hub

Posted on
  • Hi guys, new to this website but reccomended by a friend. I am trying to sell my phil wood track hub and was hoping for some advice on reasonable costing.

    The specifications are as follows:

phil wood rear track hub- 28 hole. I think it is 'high flange'? not sure about sizing
phil wood track cog 1/8'' 18T
phil wood gear lockring left hand

    Cheers guys.

  • Hi there,

This seems to be a low flange hub and they are usually 120mm spaced but there are adaptors which could make it 130 for road frames converted to fixed.

It's definitely worth something, maybe look in the classifieds and see what they sold for recently?

Also worth mentioning, if this is a used set up, was the cog removed before the wheel was unbuilt? Would be a pain to build the wheel if the cog is stuck in place.

Oh ya, there's an actual thread to ask about pricing:

  • To suggest an accurate value it would be necessary to get an idea of how well used it is, some photographs in focus of detail (cog & lockring threads, condition of spoke holes, bearing condition). And an explanation of why it has a cog on whilst unlaced, as it looks a bit ... sus'. Like who has posh hubs like this but unlaces / chops it out with a cog on?

For second hand I would be roughly halving retail price, minus more for pretty worn out stuff.

Also why the F didn't a Phil 28 LF appear when I wanted one!

  • Hi there,

I assume that when i bought my bike second hand it had most likely been stolen from someone, unfrotunately. However, naively i had no idea of the value of a phil wood hub until i took it to a bike shop recently. Having had my rear wheel kicked in and damaged i cut out the spokes in order to salvage the hub for someone to use (now knowing that it is a good hub).

    Does that make sense?

  • Would you naively post a picture of the bike ?

  • Unfortunately you made the mistake of not taking out the cog before dismembering the wheel. It’s very difficult to remove the cog from a bare hub, and it’s impossible to rebuild a new wheel with the cog in place.

I wouldn’t buy a hub like that, I’d want the cog off first.

  • I'm not sure why there needs to be so much sass

  • Because it will be difficult to remove the cog.
