If you’ve got a spare 250k an Icon FJ Landcruiser is the winner

Or just AU$10k for this...

Those Icon FJs are amazing... Would favour over a Singer 911 when lottery win arives

• #39482
I'd go the 10k one over the icon...

Yep, new ones still available as troopers or dual cabs with flat trays.

Just don't think there's enough original stuff in those icon fjs to be really called FJ landcruiser.

Also, anyone have first hand experience with either a BMW e91 323i touring or a f31 320i touring. Could be a good family car for me but trying to see if the AUD 15k premium is worth it over the older series. Looks wise I like them both, probably prefer the e91. Have yet to drive either of them.

Damn, local made too! They're very cool if yet another indication there's way too much funny money flying around.

That’s the point surely? What would an FJ made with no expense spared look and feel like? An Icon FJ.

When fitting shiny new coilovers do people normally change out their drop links at the same time?

For some nice adjustable ones ;)
When I do suspension replacement, make sure you check all the mounts any you arenot sure about, Replace. Either OE or polybush type.

That oil is more of a commercial vehicle oil rather than automotive.
There is a long discussion about it on several mazda forums.

@lynx ive read a few people saying to stay clear of adjustable drop links as they can make handling worse for a reason I can't remember, with regards to MX-5's. Which mounts specifically should I check?
Thanks for the heads up on the oil, will take a look although not sure I can muster up the enthusiasm to do it again. Bought enough to do the gearbox too so will most likely see how I go for now atleast.

Anyone tried LED H7's?
Tempted to give a pair a go in my Saab. The current halogen lights are on the verge of dangerous. I could give some high end halogen bulbs a go, but tempted to give leds a go.
Extra light or a led-ramp is of course an option, but apparently the cabling is a pita on 9-5's

Centre Gravity back up what you've heard - adjustable drop-links are for bodgers, they disguise an inability to setup the suspension correctly in the first place.

Cheers, yes that sounds familiar to what I read. How are you getting on with the Ohlins, have you experienced any settling of the shocks in terms of ride height?

This is just like Gran Turismo!

Very slight - I think 3mm at the back after just over 1,000 miles.
Overall they're really nice - do recommend.

I dunno. They just don't retain the character of an original. Maybe it's just that I'm used to seeing old original ones in faded varieties of beige still banging about. The icons essentially just use the bonnet and grille... You could put the running gear under any chassis and get the same thing. I mean, Toyota even make v8's that would be applicable but they use an LS!

Clattered a pot hole on the way home tonight and have dented the rim of the (steel) front right wheel.
Tyre was holding air 10 minutes later but I'm quite prepared for it to be flat in the morning.
There's a flat spot in the rim that's probably around 50mm long and I'd say the deviation off normal is probably less than 5mm.
I'm thinking I'll try and whack it back into shape tomorrow with a hammer and some sort of drift, suicide?
Didn't drive for long enough after hitting the pothole to really notice feeling anything, probably was more worried about whether the tyre was still up.
If the tyre needs replacing, are a garage gonna be funny about fitting a tyre onto a wheel I've dicked about with?

You'd need some heat to make it easier to bodge back into shape. Really, if it's a steely then try a breakers yard or even a new replacement would be cheap to source and more time efficient.
Mainly Landcruisers and Nissan Patrols up here, loads of flapless Commodore and Falcon sedans/wagons with burnt out paintwork tho'... 😂
