  • What sort of time should I expect to be off the bike for (toilet, stretching etc)? I assume as a first timer it's likely I will want to stop at some point. I did a 100 this year and strangely enjoyed it, but a 12hr is quite a leap.

And I know all about the advantages of longer distances, I cleaned up at the club awards because the guy who is faster than me doesn't do further than 25 miles!

  • If you're good and things go well you shouldn't be off the bike at all.

    In my first though...
I had to get off to stretch for a minute or two even though I was only riding at my 24hr power.
I stopped briefly to have a massive rant about getting lost (course change due to last minute road works).
I stopped a third time for painkillers, I think it was me hunkering down out of the Kent wind and I'd strained glutes.
Traffic light stop (Kent, Welsh, ECCA issue, none on A31)
I stopped again to call my team after I'd gone 10k off course due to no marshal being at a turn (see: last minute course changes). Had a piss while waiting for any kind of clue as to where the fuck I was supposed to be riding.
Stopped for another rant about wasting half an hour.

After that fucking disaster I still officially rode more than 240.

Pretty much every subsequent one I've had something go wrong so I'm still yet to execute a perfect race (forget perfect weather, fitness, etc, I just mean, with nothing going wrong).
