Moving up to Glasgow

Hiya, thought I'd introduce myself in the Glasgow forum - I'm moving up from London this weekend to start a job at the University of Glasgow, where my partner's been working for the last few months. I'll be riding a pink Kona mtb or a silver Ti tourer, shout DAS if you see me about!

Also - what's the recommended LBS around Crosshill?

If you're cycling from Crosshill to Glasgow Uni you'll probably be passing near the Bike Bunker on Bothwell St - run by Brian who I think is still on here? It's in the basement of 11 Bothwell St, G2 6LY.

Willie Bain is still around too I assume (not been down that way for a while) which would be close to you and again, probably on your route. He was on Polllokshaws Road, which is on the route into the city centre. Plug in G41 1QT.

Also, if you're Crosshill then in terms of routes there's also the South City Way which I completely missed for the best part of a year. Good little contraflow route.

If you're working at the Uni and need a bike shop you've got Gear Bikes on Gibson St. I don't know the Crosshill area but I have heard good things about Willie Bain.

I'm in the West End and am often riding around near the Uni on a red Bob Jackson. Holla if you see me.

Welcome. In terms of bike shops I really like the bike station (edit: now Bike For Good), loads of cheap used parts and you can use their tools to fix your bike yourself in their workshop (twice a week, but if you ask nicely they let you do it anytime as long as it's not too busy). Top institution.

Keep an eye on Glasgow bike umbrella, all the good events are detailed on there, think it's just a page on fb.

There's also a good polo scene, bit quiet at the minute because winter and the court has been an ice rink on and off for months now. Hosting Helles bells in summer I think
