  • 8 miles, so a 16 mile roundtrip. In theory a cargo bike/tandem might work but:

I have done this during holidays, t takes me 45 mins to get to the school and an hour and a half to get back. So that's 2 hours 15 minutes. [the road is not flat everywhere and some areas are on the road, cos The Netherlands this ain't...]

The car it takes 1h15 minutes and unfortunately, I have work to log back into.

Agree on the waterproofs, and I have no problems cycling to work but going out for fun on the weekend when it's pissing down just ain't gonna happen. I dug the kettlebells back out, no excuse there :)

  • The kid(s) can't be dropped at school earlier allowing you to get back in time for work? Presumably that's the fastest route and there's no alternative? Electric assist bike to speed up the journey time? If the children are old enough can they go by themselves or by public transport?

  • I could in theory get up shit early and leave an hour earlier and eat on the wheels, then when I get mini Westland work later. But it feels like a wasted hour to me, in a way, as I am not training for the Endurance With Kids On Bike while Fighting For Space. Fun it ain't.

Were it more relaxed and shorter (say using a tandem on a nice cycle lane and a 8 mile roundtrip) however, I'd be all for it. Especially as mini man enjoys tandem cycling a lot (though I need to lug most of this weight) :)

Buses and Brompton combo is also Impossubru due to the lack of public transport going to that area. Buses going outside Belfast city centre is The Pits atm. It's too bad really, I like a long cycle. But I got fed up with fighting for space.
