Handling seems a bit suspect. Love those silver Race Face cranks though.

It's.... Interesting, fork was made for track/road bikes, not super old MTB geo which handles pretty bad on its own.

polo fork? Better or worse when loaded?
-
• #17558
Karate monkey fork someone welded a new crown with a 1" steerer onto and adjusted the angle in the process. better when loaded to a point, but then I start worrying about the integrity. It's not bad enough you can't get used to it after a couple minutes, but I wouldn't say it handles amazingly, very divey.

How do people get away with such tight clearances? Do these bikes never leave Tarmac?
My commute has bits of canal path, muddy puddles, old railway tracks etc and anything closer than 1cm to tyre and it all grinds to a vault. Am I missing a trick? -

The bike you refer to isn't that tight (more than 1cm I'd say) and is nicely fitted with no tight spots...
Am I missing a trick?
Slick tyres?

Yeh maybe slicks would help but I’d spend more time rolling on the floor!
Maybe i’ll have another go at a better install, watching for tight spots, thanks -

What's up with the wire on the front mudguard? Doesn't seem to be for front light. Seems to pass through a grommet.

and the blue tape..

Moreover how recent are those pics? I remember that bike from a long time ago but it still looks unridden

it still looks unridden
Dirt on the tyres and mud flaps, worn anodizing on the chainring teeth, greasy cassette... I'd say it's ridden. Maybe (somewhat) properly cleaned on a regular basis.

Still loving it. Need a bike like that.

Leafing through this for the first time in years, serious function porn and strongly recommend everyone gets a chance to read it.
If anyone wants to borrow my copy for build inspiration then pm me.

10.5kg with racks, ‘guards and lighting. ISP, ahead stem and alu frame. So rad.

That book is a great window into a unique era/area.

The light used to be on a rack, it seems, close to where that wire is.
A pretty bike. -

Absolutely.
It seems to now be the benchmark for all neo-retro rando builders. No bad thing.
Not many 650b builds in there tho. -

I find a lot of classic rando looking bikes pretty boring but that's just lovely
That description works better with those handlebars that are attempting to gain altitude.
