Bianchi XL EV2 Frame repair (Can it be done?)

Posted on
  • Hi all,
Hoping for a bit of guidance on this one.. I’ve read that aluminium can be repaired and that it also can’t. I appreciate that this is a major job but this frame also has sentimental value to me so would really like to find somewhere that could help. The seat clamp area has come away from the frame as seen in pics.
If anyone could point me in the right direction or give any tips that would be great
    Thanks

  • I'm no framebuilder, but cracks can be repaired with varying degrees of long term success. I reckon that's past it though

  • Aluminium is corroded by salt. You must have one sweaty arse.

    Frame looks fucked.

  • its a mass produced frame. get another one if its sentimental. or hang it on your wall and move on. lots of nice frames out there.

  • What happened?

  • Well long story short it’s my Dad’s. Don’t want to go into much detail about that but seeing as it got importance to me I thought I’d see if it’s actually a repairable job. Hanging it on the wall will do it justice for now

  • File it down smooth and use a quill seatpost?

  • Didn’t know quill posts were even a thing! Quality thanks for the idea I’m going to get on the hunt 😁

  • They're not common so good luck, but there's a few around

  • Why not make one yourself ?

Attachment is one Rob English made. But would be relatively easy to replicate.

  • thats weldable.

its not in a structural part and it doesn't require heat treating, since it's 7000 grade aluminium. potentially an easy job
