Accidentally came across the just announced crabon version, bit out of budget!
Hope RD40 Carbon-RS4-S
http://off-road.cc/content/news/hope-release-new-carbon-cx-and-gravel-wheelset-937So far we can only see a claimed weight for the 6 bolt hub - 617g for the front wheel and 740g for the rear, adding up to grand total of 1,357g.
Price wise, expect to part with £590 for a front wheel and £660 for the rear.

Much advantage besides 300 or so grams!?
Edit; I'd go Reynolds over these you can pick them up for £800 odd on the canyon site -

Karen at stayer built a set with 38mm similar for 750 with pro 4.

With cyclo cross there's so many options an I better off just getting a crux?
-

Depends what you want for your money?! 1x, hydraulic, other?

They just caught my attention as new shiny things with Hope stamped on the side, I'm a sucker but would go Chinese/Handbuilt for that money.
Will probably save up and get either the Hope S-Pull or Prime Pro Disc.

i've got an old cannondale caadx with BB30. If I wanted to stick a set of these ultegra 46/36 cranks on, can anyone tell me what adaptor I'd need to buy and if I'd have any issues?
cheers.

Any recommendations for entry level cyclocross wheels? By entry level, I mean the cheapest that are worth the money. Is there anything decent under 200euro or should I think about spending more?

Disc or rim brakes?

So what's the current thinking for best budget cx bike?
In order of my desires I have
Hydro discs
SRAM 1x group set
Tubeless ready wheels
thru bolt front and rear
Gxp compatible bb so I can use my quarq PM
Mudguard mounts for winter bike dutiesIdeally something I can get on cycle to work without too much topping up.
The on one gravel bike seems to fit the bill but don't know it's suitable for actual cross racing, looked at the boardman cx team which is certainly competitive.

have found a vitus energie, which seems to fit the bill, online reviews its a bit of a jack of all trades rather than being an amazing CX bike, but other than being red, hopefully good enough for a mid pack chopper!

I've yet to ride it but the xla (ally version of xls) looks decent.
For a given value of decent.

Sorry Ed, I missed this earlier, otherwise would've answered your original question.
My standard answer on a first cx bike is to not spend too much, as the bike won't be what holds you back for some time. So get a bike that matches your requirements and floats your boat, then race it and see if you like it or not. If you get the bug, then the second bike can be tailored more to what you think you need. And there will be a second bike if you enjoy racing.

they've discontinued the XLA in small so that's out!

Thanks Andy, this is what I'm currently filling out the forms to order, then put a wolftooth chainring on my quarqs and convert to tubeless and I'mm away.

I've got last year's version of this - so much fun. Got the wheels to run tubeless with some tesa tape and a pair of Gravel king SKs.
So good that i'm tempted to buy the carbon version in the next round of C2W. One for off road hooning, one for mudguarded commuting.

I can't be the only one who did a slight double take at the logo...
£340
You can pick up j-bend slightly cheaper. They are however a little heavier.
