German V8 auto estate, 90k miles, £4k ....https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F322799122679
I'm sorely tempted to have a look at it myself

I agree on the cut it out. But this isn't a rare car, or anything special. So either cold galcnizing spray will keep it at bay for a few years.

Snap. Except I have two copies, one from brother and one from sister. Anyone want one?
-
• #39281
Yeah kinda would actually! I was hoping to get it for Christmas but both my book requests have been ignored and replaced with a joe wicks recipe book

You poor fucker. PM me an address and I'll send it over in the New Year. Bit busy until then.

it’s ok when you’re driving because then you can’t see it. You’d have to always carry an eye mask for when you’re in the vicinity of it.

You poor fucker, @danstuff for making it better. Christmas miricle.

Has anyone had any joy with STP injector cleaner before? Hearing mixed things but for a fiver it can't hurt right?

No point in cutting out rust on an common Toyota.
Even grinding back and treating is going to cost a bit if labour. Given you have a snapped drive shaft and that is part that is worth going oem for your bill is going to be fairly substantial. I dont know how much a 10 year avensis is worth but you may not see much change from £1000. I don:t know if your wheel bearing has to be changed for this job but you might as well while everything is apart.
Going to breakers yards can be worth it but for cars you are attached too.

Petrol or diesel?
I use either BK 44k if I can find it cheaper that the usual £20 or forte products. Other trick is using shell hi octane fuel with some IPA in the tank and the second tank with a shot of meths and thrash then replace fuel filter.

That's no way to speak about a 90s design classic

2.0 Diesel, starts first time and runs OK but often feels very lumpy when it idles/low revs. Ragging it hasn't helped yet

Shall we take a straw poll for "weigh in" vs "fix" for the Avensis? I believe that it'll be cheaper to get a different vehicle than to fix the Avensis, so I'll vote weigh it in:

Stick some two stroke oil in it.

Trouble with swapping cheap vehicles is that its always a bit of a lottery. I would always advocate fix unless the sums are ridiculous. You have a vehicle already known to you which is an understood quantity, any different car could be a financial black hole.

some cunt smashed my window and nicked a cake out of the back of my car.
glass replacement recommends in south london? shouldn't take more than a day, surely?

• #39296
Yeah but false equivalence fallacy, one old car (known quantity with known fault) does not equal another old car (unknown providence).

Fix: II -

What if we introduce a new, leased car as the alternative? Having been looking at this sort of thing for a couple of days you can get a decent car for an astonishingly small amount of cash per month.

@danstuff You're a gent, i'll drop you a PM.
I did wonder if it was my in laws subtle hint to go on a diet
