Why didn't you go for a single chainring instead?
The Pinnacle Neon/Lithium chainset is £25, very cheap and enable the components to last longer, 36t with 11-32t chainring give you enough range.

Cantis were a tenner (genetic from eBay), they stop. That chainset looks good, wish I had seen it earlier, I used the granny ring today so I doubt I'll survive with a single ring.
