Why didn't you go for a single chainring instead?

The Pinnacle Neon/Lithium chainset is £25, very cheap and enable the components to last longer, 36t with 11-32t chainring give you enough range.

Plus cantilevers over a Shimano alivio v brakes is insanity.

Cantis were a tenner (genetic from eBay), they stop. That chainset looks good, wish I had seen it earlier, I used the granny ring today so I doubt I'll survive with a single ring.

you are not wrong, but I am done with this bike now, it will stay as it is, might not even do the tyres correctly or sort the mudguards out, it all works fine, just need to add dynamo lights

If you change your mind the original cranks and BB off my day one are going spare.
