Shall we take a straw poll for "weigh in" vs "fix" for the Avensis? I believe that it'll be cheaper to get a different vehicle than to fix the Avensis, so I'll vote weigh it in:

Trouble with swapping cheap vehicles is that its always a bit of a lottery. I would always advocate fix unless the sums are ridiculous. You have a vehicle already known to you which is an understood quantity, any different car could be a financial black hole.
