  • What do you guys think about the holdsworth brevet? I fancy a steel road bike, but not much funds in the bank. If you can recommend an alternative for similar price.

I was also looking at maybe a neo retro build of a vintage frame instead.

  • Wow thats a cheap frame. My mate has a professional

  • I think you can't go wrong at that price and its brand new :)

  • Yeah interested in this too, anyone have anything to say about these? Apart from 'I hate planet X and it's not a real Holdsworth' etc etc

  • As others have said, looks amazing value.

I got a Holdsworth Competition in Columbus Spirit last year (not least because my first 'proper bike' was a 'proper Holdsworth') and have been super impressed - it was an XL frame and with alloy stuff, 28c wire Gatorskins etc it was not much over 8kg and rides beautifully.

The blue one looks especially sweet

  • Wow that’s a nice bike.

  • I like the look of the blue one also. I’m just a bit worried it’s going to weigh a tonne. But comparing weights to a surly pacer, this only comes in 0.4kg’ish heavier.

  • It should end up around 10kg if using standard components. Or around 9kg if using a better groupset and wheelset.

  • No lowrider mounts might be a downside?

  • I would be using most parts off my current bike.

  • I had 105 groupset on my last concorde and my bike was 9.6kg good luck with your build.

  • That Concorde looks very nice.

  • Had it 3 year just sold the frame last month :( what size is your specialized frame .looking for a winter bike frame

  • Shame I really like those old concordes. It’s a M, but frame is damaged :(

  • In what way is it damaged

  • Quite a big ding in down tube. I’ve used it for many miles since and had checked by a aluminium engineer who does repairs for my work and he said there is no cracks. But I wouldn’t feel comfortable selling the frame on.

  • Can i take it from you to use as a turbo trainer it shouldn't harm me when its on the floor .

  • My current turbo trainer is my daughter's bike a bit small

  • I’ll let you know what I’m doing with the frame as and when I get a new one. But I am based in birmingham just to let you know

  • Anyone who has ridden a low-end Planet X frame should be able to tell you what a dire lump of crap they are. If you are still seduced, wait for the sales after Xmas, when they will probably be <£100.

But why don't you find a nice old Dawes Galaxy, made of 531 and with quality components, for £125-200 spend £50 fixing it up. It will be a far superior bike on the long run.

  • There we go! Surprised it took so long :)

  • Too far away .i agree with the Gren but if you got your heart set on one then thats your pick.

  • That was also a possibility. Got offered a Raleigh rapide in 531 for good money so was thinking about that. Just seen their frameset online and wondered what people’s opinions where.

  • Not got my heart set on one just seen them online. Might just go neo retro build I think.
