• In other news I went back to the Dynaudio Air20 in the living room because I built a pair of speaker stands that work height wise. A little more bass extension than the LB1's and flatter throughout the freq. range. Very revealing. Like BRM I'm now shopping for a cart upgrade. Goldring 2100 on the list because the Nagaoka 150 feels a bit too expensive and Goldring are UK based.

Also checking out the company Signal Transfer. Doug Self designs available as ready built or diy kits. Something for the long winter nights. His design philosophy is great, no frills, no excuses. All backed up with proper electrical engineering.

What TT is this going into?
Best set up i've had was a Dynavector 10x into a trichord phono stage. MC is worth it if you have a decent phono stage imo.

Sadly, that cart is no longer. I'm now thinking of one of the Ortofon plug and play mm carts, as I cba with setting up cartridges.

(Yes, I bust the cantilever on the Dynavector, although it was well past its best by then).

  • HiViNyws on YouTube is quite informative. He carried out a massive shootout of carts this year, took months to put together.

I built 2 phono stages from scratch this year but not MC compatible, so I'd need to build a head amp. I've never really bothered with MC before as my understanding was the kind of music I largely listen to won't benefit much from it. i.e. mostly dance, lots of rock, some jazz but next to no classical. Plus like most people I play records when I'm not concentrating and sometimes shit happens and the needle takes the fall. I've also let people put records on in the past, assuming that they had a clue only to find out they don't have the coordination to manage the process!

I'll try to find some comparisons of the Dynavector though. MC is definitely in my peripheral vision at the moment.

I've not been that impressed with the Ortofon fixed length stuff though, not sure why, just didn't really float my boat. They seem to deliver a lot more punch but the soundstage often isn't a priority for a dj based cart. I've never heard the OM series though, they're supposed to pair well with the SL1200.
