RIP rider.. riding in Southampton always makes me feel uncomfortable but great place to live.

Very sad. I know the area well have grown up only a few miles from there. The road is incredibly busy with traffic heading into and out of Southampton over the bridge. If the lorry had come over the bridge the toll would have been £25. And this doesn’t send a great message either

This is very sad and the comments from royston are disgraceful, perhaps he'll suggest that pedestrians shouldn't cross busy road too.
I live just down the road in Fareham and I hate cycling in Southampton, I do it a couple of times a year on route to the New forest and it always terrifies me.

This is incredible
A HAMPSHIRE MP has controversially suggested cyclists should only use
roads with cycle lanes on them. Royston Smith believes cyclists should
“consider when and where they cycle” in order to “make the roads
safer”.A multimillion £ cycle route ends 200 metres before the spot where the cyclist died on Monday - in the middle of Mr Smith's constituency. There is a possible alternative but it is not signposted and it requires crossing over a pavement to find the quieter road. That route re-joins the main road a bit further on.

drivers should “consider when and where they drive” in order to “make the roads safer”.
Fixed that for the 'opinion holder'.

Another poor cyclist run down by a HGV, it seems to have happened at or just after the pedestrian crossing after the roundabout where the road gets very narrow. A very nasty spot with all the heavy traffic from Itchen Bridge.
