  • ah... sadly out of my price range... and sad it wont patina.

i got my eyes set on an IW323101 Vintage Aquatimer

  • I thought of that but figured let him make all personalisations for himself from here on...

  • I just popped in to Alsal to pick up a few things they have serviced for me and left with an extra box. I have purchase guilt. Happy Christmas to me.

  • They sell cats now?

  • Nah, giving them away with the purchase of a watch.

  • That's nicer than I was expecting.

I am currently debating buying a Seiko Tuna, how many desk divers are too many?

  • ^^Niiiiice

  • 14... That was my number before moving on to dress and pilots.

  • I’ll second that....

  • As much as I love this, I got my eye on something else that will probably leave some leftover for some bike upgrades...so...for sale: Moonwatch hesalite ref 311.30.42.30.01.005 with the complete package of large black presentation box etc, all tools, straps, and the steel bracelet is used maybe for one or two days from memory. plus brown leather strap and grey/black zulu, both from WatchGecko

Just over a year old (Warranty started Oct 2016) PM for more details

  • Speaking of dive watches...

Anything better (for under £1k) than the Christopher Ward Trident 600 in 38mm?

  • My bro just picked up a Squale
    I was impressed.

  • Something from Magrette http://www.magrette.com/shop/all/370040261

Just waiting for my Professional Kara to turn up.

  • So nice. Too flash for me, but glws

  • Unless i'm missing something, none of those are 38mm...

  • None of those are 38mm either.. :(

  • Are these boutique makers/Indy brands properly tested? If I was buying a dive watch I want ISO certification so I can actually use it in the water. I ask cause the Moana Pacific waterman has some nice variants. Apart from the name.

  • Let's be clear - I want a dive watch so i can pop in and out of the sea on holiday. :)
I'll probably do some light snorkeling but i'd be amazed if i dropped below 5m in depth.

I'm after a 38mm dive watch as I want something smaller and not some massive lump to wear around but something i don't have to worry about getting wet etc.

I have a steel bracelet diver already but it's fucking massive and fucking heavy.

  • Pretty much what that quartz chrono Stendardo diver I DIY modded the hell out of was used for. Don't forgot to rinse well whatever you buy. Sea salt is a pain in the bezel.

  • Sometimes not.

There were a few well publicised Helson pressure test failures a few years ago but I gather they are up to standard now. That said, I assume that not all boutique dive brands are making the same amount of effort that Helson did. Who actually dives with a dive watch anyway?

  • Anyone for a Swatch?

  • Fair point. I don't dive either, well not often but I do surf regularly and I find the only watches that survive are properly ISO rated divers of 200m or more. Maybe peak pressures spike and water finds a way in if there's any weakness. Something to bear in mind if waterskiing or even diving is a likely holiday activity.

  • Skx013

    Or a Casio.

I think there may also be a Citizen in that size.

    I'm sure there's a small Squale.

For a holiday watch I'd probably go for a bright rubber strapped swatch.

  • Any single/simple coloured ones in the pile?

  • I remember the Rotary watch I had a decade ago taught me all that in the book. Apparently you shouldn't even splash about in the pool with a watch that can't handle at least 10 atmospheres. Definitely never watersports. It's never the depth, it's the pressure it hits the surface. I found a chart but lost it, there was an essay saying how the velocity/gravity etc affects the effective atm pressure.
