  • Ah, good point! I have others like this one which could stack. But they're full of junk in my junk cupboard.

  • The best only home for dubiously acquired crates

  • The purple Frame has a drilled and tapped rod fitted into brake bridge, guard is bolted directly to that, and bolted to chainstay bridge too, leather washers. I fitted that mudguard 5 years ago and it hasn't moved or rattled. I got the guards used as a trade with Edscoble and the flashy Herse/Singer reinforcing was to cover a hole he'd drilled for a similar mounting on a smaller frame.

    I like bike bothering.

Managed to snag a piece of broken alu mudguard from me to make that, it's a truly lovely fix mate. Always makes me envious.

  • So I came here to ask about stopping a daruma moving/rattling about like fuck. Seems so lo-fi to have to stack and pack tons of washers everywhere to keep it still, and then there's the problem of the daruma swinging/rotating on the brake bolt axis.

I fucking hate darumas they cause more problems than they solve.

  • Could use the cork hack a few pages back? Hollow out a cork to the diameter of the daruma bolt and have notches in the eye end of the cork so the daruma eye is is almost completely encased in cork with the brake bolt running through a groove? Apparently corks fit steerer tubes very well, and you should minimise rattle space if you bodge this well. Excuse the shit drawing, but something like this

  • Darumas are designed to snug the fender right to the underside of the fork, I think the current penchant for more closely following the tire profile means that people are using them on bikes that they may not be appropriate for. If you shortened the daruma, snugged the fender and adjusted all other distances to match (because matching) would that solve the noise, or am I reading you wrong?

  • Problem Solvers fender flute if the gap is massive and steerer is 1 1/8". Pricey though. I got a local machine shop to turn a bit of nylon into a custom plug with a threaded hole underneath which I then filed to the right angle. This is why Thorn style eyelets under the crown should be mandatory on everything.

  • Santa came early this year, Sim Works mudguards made by Honjo landed today. About 20 grams heavier than carbon Swarfs but these are 2mm wider and actually available. The fittings on these are lighter too so in total its gonna be close.

  • Nice but pricey. Are they the flat 42's? interested in seeing what they look like on a bike.

  • To me these were about the same price as Swarfs including postage but yea, they are both pricey. Flat 42's is correct. I think they feel and look great. The all black fittings is a nice touch. As of now I'm waiting for a frame to put them on but I'll update in due time.

  • Happy with radials. Always outsource fitting ...

  • nice bicycle

  • Any more info on your flaps?

  • RAW would be my guess

  • Yeah, snug that Daruma up.
Some frames they just work on leaving a neat fit.
I think I stuck a large washer in here (wider than steerer tube) guard is just lower than brake calliper.
