Also got a question about seiko 007 vs a sekio samurai. I like them both the 007 is cheaper, but is the mechanics inside the samurai superior to the 007?? Ive trued to read up but im not 100% that the samurai is worth the extra.

The movement in the Prospex will be better than that in the SKX.
My SKX gains a few a minutes after a week or so of wearing. Not really an issue for me because I rarely wear it exclusively and have to set it be for wearing.
Curse of mechanical watches I suppose. -

Thanks the samurai is tempting but think it may still be out of the budget after checking with the financial controller.

The ETA stendardo has been perfect til recently. Maybe some vibrations or something from moving stuff, because it seems to bave gained four or five minutes. No time lost or gained wearing almost exclusively since August, but now this. Not sure how gradually it's gained it, but definitely in the last few weeks.
Must be a mechanical watch thing across all movements.

Keep an eye on it each day and see how much it deviates. It could be magnetised, or could have a hairspring issue if it took a very hard knock at any point.
Seikos in general don't seem to run very well unless they are in very good, clean condition. The cheaper mechanical movements seem to have a relatively high failure rate. In general, Seiko movements run with a lower "amplitude" ie. the balance does not swing as strongly as a similar Swiss movement.

I unsubscribed from this thread because I was spending too much money I didn't have.
Then I remembered the existence of Omega Speedmasters. Goddamnit.

Hello strangers!
I'm trying to find some inspiration for a young man first watch. So far he's liked this Seiko 5:
He is very tall and slender (6'4"), so chunky saucer faces are out. We're thinking 36mm is perfect. I think he is feeling the military style that the above watch is rocking. I know it'd be a bit of a recycle of this thread but please post alternatives that you think will fit the request. TIA.

Thought the Vostoks were super gaudy...
There have been so many khaki strapped watches but I cannot remember the names. Is he good for him to scam through and build ideas of what he likes...
