  • will the Post Office change up my bagged up loose change for some crisp notes?

  • Where on the high street can I buy an empty jewellery box?(It's to present a vintage bracelet as a gift)

Ordered one off amazon but foolishly forgot to check delivery times and I don't think it's going to arrive before the big day... Any ideas?

  • any non-chain jeweller?

You can usually deposit it into your bank account for no charge (then take the money out from a cashpoint). Most branches are happy to do this if you've already bagged it up, and as long as there aren't big queues.

The Coinstar machines in places like Sainsbury's take a chunk (5% or 10%) as a fee. It can still be worth it if you want minimal hassle and enjoy the sound of rattling coins.

Most Metro bank branches have coin counting machines that are free to use even if you're not a Metro bank customer.

  • Paperchase do some nice little boxes, which the recipient can then re-use for other things. You could fashion something for the inside for bracelet presentation.

  • my bank has no nearby branch, but there's a post office 5 mins away

  • Definitely not selling the Donohue any time soon! (Probably ever) sorry!

  • Who's the 'on here' type that works for Hunt wheels? @MechaMorgan ?

  • not sure if its still there as I cant see it on Google maps, but id put my hat on you being able to get jewellery boxes on Hatton gardens.

  • Post Office reluctantly agreed to change up my £97.

  • Cheers.

For the most part it seems like BS. But that one point I listed had me confused. Because surely service providers like Netflix must already pay ISPs for the internet they use? Or is everything hosted in such a way that it is only the end users who really use up internets.

Metrobank has a free to use machine. There is one in Holborn.

  • What they mean is, users streaming Netflix uses more internet than just browsing Facebook. Services like Netflix pay to run servers capable of streaming to however many thousands of customers at once, but it's the user that pays the ISP.

Personally I pay to have the fasted connection possible to my house, I also pay more to not have a contract with a download limit. Those against net neutrality would market it as 'access Facebook unlimited amounts of time', or 'watch 100 hours of Netflix for £10', but what it means if you want to watch a film on Hulu or something instead then you'll pay through the nose or have a really slow speed. It corners the market and locks users into the ecosystem of whoever pays (read: bribes) the ISP the most.

Companies like Facebook that want to control your life would love it. They could get the deal with the ISPs, start their own streaming service, own Google searches, own forums, and make it uneconomical for people to go outside of their ecosystem. Without realising it everything you do will be owned by Facebook and every aspect of your online life will be sold on.

  • Walled gardens were tried in the early days of the consumer internet and failed. You’d think people would learn from history wouldn’t you?

    Fuck the FCC.

  • Is it appropriate (or possible) to write some line of code that sends an email every 60 seconds saying "fuck you, pay me" to a client who is months overdue and still bullshitting about paying it?

  • yes but after about 3 they'll just go automatically into the spam folder.

  • I think you know the real solution.

  • This is what I feared. What if it changed the wording slightly each time?

Their latest excuse is that the CEO is traveling and doesn't have a stable internet connection. The issue here is that I can see he's online and in Bury St Edmunds.

  • Tell them last warning and a debt collection agency will be booked on monday?

  • Are you hosting any assets you could take down?

  • Nah, video unfortunately and they already have it. About 10 grand, plus 4 from another client (though for less time) and 6 from another. Nice round number to be owed just before Christmas.
