  • Any storyboard artists about? A friend is trying to put together something and has been told by his usual guy that 'he's working on it' only to find out today it was a pack of lies and he's fucked off to Prague for a week. He needs 15 rough frames by end of Friday (mostly cars and people by the sounds of it). Let me know.

  • Is there a "1x9/10/11" thread?

  • It’s a VAR B.B. fixed cup installation / removal tool. Bit archaic but it seemed reasonably priced and i’ve struggled to get particularly stubborn ones off in the past.

  • So if I held it solid and horizontal it wouldn't turn one way. If gravity is pulling down on the wheel and thus causing the precession, would a loaded bike on the ground not produce a force in the opposite direction through the axle upwards and make the wheel turn left? or is the whole thing cancelled by the fact that the wheel is held solid through the axle?

  • What's a VAR B.B.?

  • is the whole thing cancelled by the fact that the wheel is held solid

The important thing is that the various loads (ground reaction, gravity, bearing support) net out to a zero torque. Any non-zero torque creates an acceleration, which also causes a precession when the object in question has angular momentum about an axis which is not aligned with the axis of the applied torque.

  • What's a VAR

A French manufacturer of bicycle tools, particularly noted for their high quality (and high price) workshop tools.

  • Ah right. Ta.

Needles to say, I've never used one

  • Does anyone know of somewhere/someone who could service/repair a car stereo for me?

It's got two internal radio receivers, but the radio reception has recently become poor.

  • is this the right URL for co-op bank?

    https://bank.co-operativebank.co.uk/CB/p#_frmLoginStatements

Or am I being subtly redirected elswhere? Firefox is flagging it as Connection not Secure

  • Looks dodgy to me. The 1st bank?

  • If you are, so am i. Just googled co op bank and when clicking on the login bit it points me there too.

    https://bank.co-operativebank.co.uk/CB/p#_frmLoginStatements

Their Symantec SSL cert is apparently expiring on 22nd Dec this year though, so maybe your browser's nervous about that?

  • thanks. i used a different browser and that goes to the same site. its worth the risk i think, i'm overdrawn anyway, nothing to steal

  • Anyone know anything about the arguments around net neutrality?

If so can someone explain the counter points to this "for" argument :

The internet has moved on to a point where some large companies use a huge amount of bandwidth - Netflix, Skype, Google docs, etc. Internet providers should have the freedom to charge those who use a lot (and make vast profits) more.

Am I being really thick here, but wouldn't business offering products that use lots of bandwidth have to also use lots of bandwidth themselves... which they then have to pay for?

  • I just got this email about a bike I'm selling on eBay. For some reason it seems a bit dodgy, is there anything that could go wrong if they pay by PayPal in advance?

  • Well known scam. Avoid.

  • Ok thanks. How does it work?

  • "Courier" takes your bike, they claim it was never delivered, refund.

  • There's no argument for, it's just big business like Facebook and ISPs wanting to make more money. By making it more expensive for someone to access websites which aren't part of the deal it means anyone starting a new business will struggle to get seen. For example Sky pays other ISPs to put their on demand streaming service on the cheap plan, suddenly consumers will have to decide if they want to pay more to be able to access Netflix instead, they won't and Sky will have a monopoly.

Also. It's massive amounts of bullshit. Things on the internet, I pay an ISP to connect me to that internet, they shouldn't have any say in what and how I access anything that's legal.

  • What if I were to insist on them sending it as friends and family? Or if I were to organise a signed for courier myself? (Although obviously they'll refuse these options if it is a scam)

  • is it the maroon donuhue? infinidibzzzz

  • F&F shouldn't be used for any sales. Makes you seem scammy.

Delivery is normally the seller's responsibility. Do it.

  • It looks like a scam. If they insist upon arranging their own courier then it's definitely a scam.
Give them a house number on the street that doesn't exist.

  • Shropshire. Anyone know it well? Specifically roads?

I'm shooting something in January which requires a dramatic stretch of road to film on. Has to be in Shropshire though. Ideally not too 'country lane'. I would assume the A49 is going to be our best bet at a 'main' road driving through some pretty country but is it a bit 'too' main? Curves in the road are good for us. Being at the top of a hill so we can reveal country below is good for us. Open rather than wooded ideally. Any tips appreciated.
