  • Whilst on the subject of all road tyres, any more reccomendations?

I'm setting up my cross check and my girlfriend's Brother Kepler for some off road bikepacking in spain. Both have a stated clearance of 42 and we want to be able to take on some rough stuff.

Both Knards and Elwoods look good, but the Elwoods might be a bit light and more racey.

    Thoughts?

  • I've been rolling soma cazederos on my Kepler, and they're surprisingly quick on tarmac whilst also super knobbly on the sides. 41c I think. Only trouble is they're super pricey. Managed to get them second hand. Gravelking Sks also look pretty nifty by I haven't tried them.

  • The folding bead version of the Knard isn’t too hefty IMO, and they are pretty versatile - unless you’re getting into thick mud as they don’t clear fantastically. Otherwise you could go WTB Nano at a similar width?

Look at G-One which is decent on dry condition such as Spain.

Officially my Straggler 700c has clearance for 41mm tyres, but I'm running Continental RaceKing 29x2.0" just fine. Mavic XM719 rims, so 19mm internal.
