He ran out of money, was supposed to be XX1 RD but I guess he had the road one in his parts bin. I'm with him on the little cassette if he keeps both rings, although he's also toying with 1× so something bigger will be needed.

That is one example yes. Also why road rear mech and small cassette, why is the seatpost that weird shape, why does it have 2 chainrings but no front mech, why are the wheels different sizes. Etc
