Berlin, like everybody it seems, I know...

Still one of my forum favs, so rad!

Built this up over the weekend.
Realised I almost had enough spare parts to build another bike, minus the frame. The objective was to build a fast/fun commuter for dry days, and to try 1x and an oval chainring.
Found the frame cheaply, took advantage of a Superstar offer to get a N/W oval chainring for £24ish, and gutted the left Campag shifter which works well with the SRAM X7 rear mech.

This looks awesome. Drive side pic?

I only have one, pre-seat height/angle adjustment:

No cable loop to the MTB mechs always looks way neater.
Really nice and simple but rad bike this -

Thanks! That's pretty much exactly what I was after. May change to a road mech as I overestimated the requirement for a longer cage, but as you say, running a 4" outer cable kinda makes up for it aesthetically.

Don't you think posting your survey 3 times is enough?

Really nice, how well does the sram/campa mix work?

Smoother than my straight-Campag bike! I need to order an inline barrel-adjuster because neither the mech or frame have adjusters, but it's impressively synced-up already.

interesting to hear. Wanted to get campy again (I like the ergos), but all my other stuff is shimano, might just pick up a set of ergos and try it out, thanks :)

This one then :)

Now I'm kinda confused tbh, the article I posted and @Hazzles Principia both indicate I should be fine without a shiftmate, but why would they make one then? Would rather avoid having one of these...

@slothy I read somewhere that Campag shifters work with SRAM road rear mechs, and read separately that SRAM road shifters have the same pull ratio as SRAM (X-series) mtb mechs. Ergo (pun intended), Campag shifters should work with SRAM mtb mechs.
As I say, my current shifting is 95% perfect but I still need to add a barrel adjuster. It's due to arrive this week so should be able to report back this weekend.

Can't really figure out how that works. I look at this page on drivetrain compatibility an awful lot and it seems to suggest Campy/SRAM aren't compatible. Also (in general) only the 10-speed SRAM stuff is compatible between MTB and road (though you can bodge together 11-speed road shifters and a 10-speed MTB derailleur). But if you've got it working that's cool.
I had the same problem with the inline shifters (though I've got SRAM road levers not Campy); took about a month for them to arrive in the post as my gears and shifting slowly got worse and worse.
It works fine now though, and clutch mechs are a revelation. Although I think I may need to replace the outers as the shifting going a bit off again.

That's strange - this is the website I found: http://www.velonews.com/2008/03/bikes-and-tech/can-you-run-campy-shifters-with-a-sram-drivetrain-sure-why-not_73404
My exact set-up is: 10sp Campag Veloce shifter, SRAM X7 rear mech, Shimano HG81 SLX 10sp Cassette, KMC 10sp chain.
I'm guessing I've either created the perfect combination of parts/brands or the barrel adjuster won't make any difference, and I'll be limited to 95% perfect shifting.

95% still sounds way better than the shot-out 5500 that's on my quantum pro atm :D there's a set of Chorus ergos on the local bay that ends tomorrow, might grab them if they're reasonably cheap anyways.

Ah, that's interesting. We'll find out when you get your adjusters I guess!
You'd only need to swap either the derailleur or shifter if it doesn't improve with the adjusters and becomes annoying I suppose, so no big deal. Then obviously use the spare derailleur/shifter to build another bike.

I've just noticed your username - no wonder you're interested in my obscure drivetrain!

Haha, yeah, I love this stuff. Even my "nice" bike is an MTB/road crossover groupset thing. Never ridden anything with Campy on it though so I'm intrigued by that idea... Might bodge something together if I ever see a really cheap Campy shifter.

Ooooh! Elan ice blue. Good match with the snow then!
