But the pressure in the boiler is constant, so doesn't that mean they're off?

Grohe and HansGrohe, am I right in saying they're entirely different? If so, are Grohe any good or is HansGrohe the one to go for?
-
• #12229
Yeah definitely.
DIY stand for Don't Involve Yourself.(Especially if you have a landlord)

• #12230
Could be furred-up internals with something sticking until the pressure changes with the second tap open? That would be my first place to check.

Hansgrohe was founded by the eponymous Hans Grohe. It should not be confused with Grohe AG, which was founded by Hans Grohe’s son Friedrich. All ist klar?
So yes, totally separate companies but I think they both make decent stuff.

With such knowledge you could be a Hans Grohe borer.

What is with these Germans can they not get along. This like Adidas and puma all over.

If the tap is a mixer it might be an airlock or a dodgy washer. With a mixer tap it's sometimes useful to put your hand over the spout to block the flow and turn both the taps on, it can help to re-balance airlocks and might dislodge a sticking washer. I have dismantled taps to find badly broken down washers inside but with mixer taps each one is a special mystery created by god to annoy tradesmen.

That's a pretty good estimate for London rates. I'm starting to ask a little bit more as I'm getting old and have bad habits to feed.
-
• #12236
As you should!!
I worked in London at £180 per day - my rate couldn't/didn't increase for years -
Most of my jobs were price work though, I just got quicker (until I started getting slower).
I've been off the tools since May due to surgery and may not go back. Can't say I've missed it. 😂 -
• #12237
Just gave that a go. I sprayed water everywhere and didn't fix the problem. Might try again tomorrow.
I think a seal/washer was just replaced actually.
-
• #12238
Get the landlord to sort it.
-
• #12239
Yeah, I will. Just being lazy because a) if I summon the landlord I have to clean up b) I find the problem interesting
-
• #12240
I never miss it but I know when I'm ready to do it again if I've had a bit of time off. £180 a day is still a thing, it has increased a bit this year, probably in line with the devaluation of sterling. Once you get stuck on a rate it's difficult to shake it off.
Hope you are healing up, any ideas what else you'd do?
-
• #12241
Should have said to open the taps gently enough that you can redirect the pressure back into the spout. I've used this technique successfully a few times but I don't really understand why it works.

All ist klar?
No, because it's "Alles klar?" :)

Anyone using a Ring doorbell or Canary security cam? Looking for firsthand reviews. Cheers

• #12244
We have a Canary cam, pretty much works as advertised but object recognition is non-existent/very basic.
We haven’t signed up for the extra function plan. -

In that case check the taps washers.

When I got my bathroom done I had folks trying to ask £600 a day. Needless to say I did not hire them.
Tap wise, I'm really into this company... https://www.lussostone.com/showers-c6/showers-c24/lusso-luxe-shower-set-with-thermostatic-valve-and-hand-held-shower-matte-black-p511
When I move to a "keeper" I'll prob buy all their stuff but for my current place I went with Crosswater as per @bq and they are oooohhhkkaayyyyy but my shower mixers dont feel very well made.
I'd check that the filling loop taps are definitely off. Check all stop valves to the taps
