Just on the comments on the last page, the dollar was so shit that actually, a custom bike was/is cheaper than a Cielo was. Any of the many great U.K. builders can do the same thing for the same or less $$$

I agree with you.I also agree that things should be kept local wherever possible. Saying that I have seen lots of pretty poorly finished/made custom frames.
The point mainly was that unless you pay a lot over £1000 for a steel frame it won't be all that nice.
Which didn't used to be the case. -

I’ve nothing against uk builders. I’ve had a few things custom made over the years by very skilled people (a suit, an engagement ring etc). In each case the work was great, but I was usually disappointed that the end result didn’t quite match what I had in mind. You don’t have that worry from a production frame.
