  • Did some off roading, rode down some stairs, bunny hops, wheelies, endos, cobbles - didn't budge. The final changes are just small details to make it as user friendly as possible.

  • Are you not worried about magnets <--> electronic devices/credit cards interference?

  • Have you seen any of the Restrap stuff that uses magnets? They use a range fidlok fastenings, same as you find on some helmet chin straps buckles - basically, the magnet locates but there is a mechanism that secures - the magnets themselves aren't under load. Perfectly solid, no interference, and as the magnets aren't super powerful won't wipe your phone/camera etc.

  • @tm any possibility of a magnetically attaching rack-top bag similar to something like the ILE roll-top one in the pipeline? Would get one in a shot.

  • Bigger, probably roll top rack bag is next on the list.

  • Awesome! If you need a tester...

  • Roll-top rack bag and a rack that fits ortlieb panniers would be packing heaven for me.

  • What about seam taped roll top panniers that used a locating magnet instead of hook at the bottom?

  • Would like a large square rack that I can mount off my v brake bosses only.
I guess I could drill the fork but a less invasive fixing would be better
    Along these lines.
    But bigger

  • Obligatory 'what bag?' comment

  • Pelago and soma racks both fit Ortlieb panniers (you can squeeze the big ones on at a push) and then take your pick of roll tops (ILE etc)

  • Tried the Pelago commuter rack, but it doesn't fit the Orlieb panniers my gf has really well. Found an old Tubus and in combination with a small sjs rack it does anything she needs.

  • Front racks for carbon road forks, no proper mounts, just the brake hole?

Been using a Minoura Gamoh which comes with a QR mount (their user manual says this is OK to use, go figure) but the rack is too big/heavy for my needs.

Pelago commuter looks ideal in size but the user manual says.. No QR when using the dropout.

Alternative racks? May just get a bigger bag for the front.

  • Sturdy looking QR solution that, shame they don't do any smaller racks or sell the QR/mount on its own.

  • Anyone know if the new cinelli tutto frame has the same issues with the Pelago commuter rack as the mash work model did. Like the issues @jetski and @ExTra had

  • Don't put a rack on a carbon fork! Don't. Your teeth are more valuable.

  • Anyone tried the SJS canti-post front rack? It's only £16. Tempted to get it for a beater.

Edit: forgot to search. Post from a couple of years ago says it's alright. Still interested in anyone else's thoughts though?

  • I too am intrigued by the SJS canti rack... any users on here?

It just worries me that those canti-posts aren't designed to hold weight...

  • i've just received one in the post, for my trek 970.

I used to have a nitto m12 which I'd bent apart to fit the canti posts. it held my large wald basket ziptied on for a happy year or two, and then it snapped, it's not really designed to be bent like I did.

will put the sjs rack on shortly and report back

  • sick!

and @platypus - nice, my bro is hopefully getting an old 970 this week.

Love the story of them as the last of the lugged - http://theradavist.com/2014/01/beautiful-bicycle-benedicts-trek-970-650b-shred-sled/

I'm thinking of sticking one of the racks on my Trek 8700 (which is over in current projects)...

  • I wouldnt be too worried about the studs not holding. You squeezing the brakes as hard as you can is also a pretty intense force, leveraging the studs apart. Ive had a small wald basket full of pretty heavy stuff off road before, and it was sorta flexy but nothing concerning. As long as its not for hauling furniture or something, i think your good

  • Restrap Magical Magnetically Rando bag now live on the website in 2 sizes at long last.

    https://restrap.co.uk/collections/bar-bags

You get a 15% discount with LFGSS15 if you fancy one.

  • Can you please suggest they add some more photos, there's nothing to show what the map pocket is like or a wide shot of the interior
