  • I missed the Festive 500 last year due to being whacked out of my gourd on valium, so I'm going to attempt to make it up this time round for 1000km.

    23rd London to Bath (~220km)

    24-31st Festive 500 (~560 hopefully)

    1st Bath to London (~220km)

  • I was considering doing the 500 again this Christmas, but the thought of being whacked out on Valium is far more appealing.

  • I recon trying to do the Festive 500 on valium would be a gas.

  • the 2017 page has been setup on strava

    https://www.strava.com/challenges/rapha-festive-500-2017

  • This is a route I do quite often.
About 65km. Did it around 11 today was great

  • I would consider the ferry as cheating ;)

  • my plan is to ride the 400km from home to my parents on the 26th/27th then mop up the other 100km over the rest of the week, just booked the holiday inn express in Taunton for the trip! Excited!

  • I am taking a ferry as part of festive 500 as well

  • As it was rather empty I did wonder how Strava would cope with cycling around the ferry

  • How are people’s plains going for doing the 500 in one. I’ve been toying with the idea, got good miles in my legs this year and it might be my last chance to do something this stupid for sometime with an impending arrival next year.

I know it’s not really in the spirit, but I’m thing about doing it in local loops (for local people). If it’s good enough for steve abrahams and all that.

  • How are people’s plains going for doing the 500 in one.

Make it into an audax, like a 600k really.

  • I say I'm gonna do this every year, manage 100k and then break down.

  • do it as laps of Richmond Park

  • I've not ridden a bike for months, the Festive 500 is going to be genuinely challenging this year.

  • it was "funny" to see last year the chart toppers, racking 300/500 kms daily around Hong-Kong airport or such places with floodlights... lets book the velopark for private lfegsstive use

  • dafuq is the point of that? "winning" the festive 500 if there's no bitter cold wind, no rain, no snow, no ice, no broken glass and shitty roads.

Someone get me a fucking HPV and I'll "win" it riding around in fucking circles for a day just to annoy those tossers playing in summer.

    spits

  • is it really too much to ask that strava uses its skills with gps to invalidate people in warmer climates.
Just can't marry up all the inspirational quotes from people who've completed it and 'found' themselves if they're just cruising the Australian coast line on a warm evening.

  • Enter pretentious # to distance yourself from fair weather warriors

  • MsGraunch did it last year almost entirely as laps of RP... It's not a as dire as you think, you meet loads of people

  • Rapha and Strava are global companies, they want to reach as many people as possible, so why should they arbitrarily exclude people?

  • Because Britain voted out

  • You weren't saying that when I rocked up at border control...

  • haha well if it is weather focused like the majority of the marketing seems to be then it wouldn't be arbitrary would it. But fair cop. they actually mention the Summer evenings here.

with the colours representing the shades of light we see in the sky at
this time of year around the world. Cold early starts, balmy summer
evenings and the slow burn and rich satisfaction of the eventual
reward: 500km, ridden in eight days or less.

I'd say theres a place for a winter solstice badge then.
