This may eventually become my only road bike. I'm happy with 1x generally but I'd rather have the larger range in case I ever need it

44t chainring and 11-42 cassette gives almost identical low gear as 34/50 x 11-32

11-42?! This isn't a mountain bike. I've wanted another gear more times on 50/11 than at the 34/23 end. I'm not concerned about climbing, thats the one bit of cycling I'm nearly ok at. I would rather not have massive gaps between gears and have a lower gear for the top end so 52 or 53
