Where?
-

ahhhh the internet. So grey market non authorised dealer, with the warranties already activated as only a genuine stockists is valid. I suppose you pay your money, you takes your chances.
-
• #24733
Specifically, what chances are you taking? I know for a fact that Omega and Rolex are happy to deal with watches purchased on the grey market...

The tide is changing for how luxury watches are sold.
JLC, Cartier, Chopard, Montblanc, Piaget and Panerai have started selling online in the last year or so, albeit restricted to particular models in certain countries. Other brands such as Bremont are rumoured to be following suit. The water is being tested.
EDIT: Just remembered that Audemars Piquet were talking about increasing profits without increasing production volumes or prices. That basically means they are looking to squeeze the middlemen. I really do think that the big brands have a whiff of money in their noses in terms of loosening their rules on online sales.

All the Swiss are against grey market, and Rolex particularly so. I can't even sell a new Rolex in my store in Abingdon even though we have two Rolex showrooms. My client would have to go to one of the stores where the stock is held.
The warranties are electronically activated at the store where the watch is. Only then are they valid.
My comment wasn't with buying online but the source of online. ( we sell online, certain brands) -

You probably don't approve of these guys then /trollface
They're a bricks and mortar in Frankfurt selling new watches online for Bitcoin.

if it comes down to buying a new watch for £2600 online or £3600 in an AD i prefer to save the 1000. if something is wrong how much will a service cost me? my guess is under 1000.

• #24738
How often do they adjust their prices considering how quickly bitcoin is shifting at the moment?
-
• #24739
Not fast enough. And that was before the recent rises. It is totall out of whack right now.
They give better pricing if you contact them directly.
I think they are going to change their site to auto update prices soon.

There was an interesting case which finished yesterday where the result was basically that luxury brands had more scope to limit where their products were sold online.

No I don't. String 'em up I say!!
-
• #24743
They've got legit stores too...they're just hedging their bets I think.
-
• #24744
But I bet if you spend £2600 and something goes wrong I bet you will still expect your local AD to sort out under your "warranty" and get pissed when they don't want to know 'cos it's come from somewhere as shady AF. And none of us need inherit somebody else's problem. For no money.
-
• #24745
how long does an omega warranty apply anw? 2 years? after that we all (grey market or AD) pay the same for service right?

Is provenance an issue with unknown internet sellers?
Something that was perhaps stolen at some point, then fenced overseas, innocent buyer tries to get AD service, serial numbers flag up nicked, you lose.I don't know of this is real or just me making shit up.
Personally I agree and would rather save a hefty chunk of change, but then I'd probably go 2nd hand rather than grey markets.

• #24748
Well ofcourse you choose the seller. If its already an established seller with good feedback then why not?
