  • I've had a bottle of Benromach peat smoke before: https://www.benromach.com/whiskies/benromach-contrasts/peat-smoke

Dunno if that's your thing but it was really tasty.

  • Can vouch for the Glenfarclas 15 being a good drop

  • Sainsburys has Balvenie 14 year old Golden Cask on for £42. That's me sorted for the holidays.

  • Glenmorangie 10 purchased for the Xmas cake...soaked the fruit, have a dram... quite good price at $64 NZD

  • Any advice on where to get best price on Highland Park 18?

  • Woodford Reserve currently £20.99 on Amazon.

Good option for festive Old Fashioneds.

  • Currently £23 in Tesco atm as well if you can't be bothered with postage - not sure how long for.

  • Green Spot currently £28 on a prime deal of the day. So good at that price.

  • This thread is bad for my wallet

    • Hides Woodford Reserve behind the Benromach
  • Festive season haul is in. Balcones Single Malt, Hibiki Japanese Harmony and a bottle Flor de Caña Centenario 18 y/o rum.

Tempted to get one more bottle to see me through the year. Still have some Nikka from the Barrel left and really like that. Any recommendations on non peaty or overfly floral whiskies?

  • Buy more Balcones. :)

  • There’s always that option.

  • Glengoyne 18 is always nice as is the Jameson 18 if you want something very drinkable. Edradour has a bunch of finishes if you want something a bit different. Glenrothes does some really interesting bottlings and Knockando always gets overlooked for some reason, but you might find it a bit floral.

  • Anybody tried the kilkerran 12? Picked up a bottle yesterday, and will crack into once I get through a couple of others. Any comparisons to other springbank whiskies?

  • Not sure I've had the 12, but I've enjoyed a couple of Kilkerrans. WIP 2 and the 8yo IIRC.
Really liked both, I'm yet to find a bad dram from Campbelltown.

  • GF bought me that Woodford on Amazon special - she's a keeper!

  • Good to hear, seemed like a steal at £35. Trying to hunt down a bottle of the local barley springbank 10 cask strength but I think I might have missed the boat unfortunately

  • Been a bit unlucky recently - I picked up a bottle of Kilchoman Machir Bay and then a Springbank 10, and they're both minging.

I havent read a bad review on either, so yeah, I'm the only person on the planet that will use a Springbank to clean my chain.

  • I don't know why this year's Dalwhinnie Winters Gold tastes so different than before. It's woody and not as sweet...me and my GF both thought the same straight away

Maybe a bad bottle? Is that a thing?

  • Green Spot went down a treat. Very smooth and easy drinking. Not sure I'd stump up rrp for it, though.

    @cookiemonster - I don't like springbank either.

  • That is really unlikely. More that they have changed the blend for this year. Sorry. "Changed the expression" in whisky bollocks language.

Also - thanks for reminding me that i have half a bottle left from last year in my freezer. Cheers!

  • Jeez I would live the rest of my days with a dirty chin in this case. Springbank is one of my favs

  • My impression is that there's more variability between bottles of the same whisky these days than in the past - though i've no real evidence to back it up. I've kind of assumed that the majority of distilleries are increasing production, which results in some differences. I may just be making this up in my head though...

  • I don't think my palatte is good enough to notice that level of variability from bottling to bottling to be honest. The only major change would be a new still, but they only do that every 30 years and even the most have more than one to dilute the imoact. You may be right BTW, but how you perceive taste depends on a number of factors. It's possible that there is a variable you may not have considered.

For something like an annual seasonal release with no age statement they have the freedom to change it without lots of complaints. If they messed with the 15 it would be noticed.
