I've never worked out how to do it if you're uploading the images to the forum (which is what I think the OP was asking)
You do what I said. You upload as attachments, then use the now hosted files as embedded images in an edit to your original post. If you look at my post the embedded image is hosted on microcosm.

It's easy to do it if the pictures are external links, I've never worked out how to do it if you're uploading the images to the forum (which is what I think the OP was asking).
